Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 31st that it selected the winners for the League of Legends and FC Online categories and awarded a total of 4 million won in prize money at the finals of the "6th Gyeongsangbuk-do University Esports Tournament," held at the Gyeongsan Youth Knowledge Playground.
A total of 182 students from 14 universities across the province participated in the tournament. Since 2021, the province has been hosting this annual event to expand inter-university exchanges and youth leisure culture through esports.
The tournament progressed from online preliminaries and main matches starting in September to the finals. The League of Legends category drew 150 participants across 30 teams, while the FC Online category had 32 participants. In the League of Legends category, Yeungnam University’s "eve" team claimed victory, with Kyungpook University’s "Gyeong-buk" team finishing as runner-up. In the FC Online category, Yeungnam University student Si Jin-hyung won the championship, and Yeungnam University student Song Yu-sang took second place.
This year, an "Esports Tournament Supporter" group consisting of 10 university students in the province interested in the esports sector handled everything from tournament planning to on-site operations. The supporters explored career paths in the related field by receiving employment mentoring from active esports professionals.
The finals were hosted by commentator Lee Do-hyun and caster Kim Tae-in, and were live-streamed on the provincial official YouTube channel, "Boiso TV." On-site spectator participation events, such as match predictions and the "Beat the Supporters" mini-game, were held alongside an online viewing certification event on Boiso TV.
Park Sun-young, Head of the University and Youth Division of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "I would like to thank the university students in the province who participated in the tournament and the supporters who joined in operating it. We will continue to consistently provide venues for exchange and harmony among universities using culture enjoyed by youth as a medium."
