Samsung Securities Cultivates Future Investors with Minor Account Opening Promotion

In a move to encourage early financial literacy and long-term wealth building, Samsung Securities has launched a special "Seed of Asset Growth with Our Children" event throughout May, coinciding with South Korea's Family Month. This initiative targets parents opening their first non-face-to-face (online) investment accounts for their minor children, offering a range of incentives designed to kickstart their children's financial futures.

The promotion, running until May 30th, provides tangible rewards to parents who embrace the opportunity to introduce their children to the world of investing. By opening a new custodial account online, parents become eligible for a lottery offering Naver Pay digital currency worth KRW 10,000 to 100 randomly selected participants, and a larger prize of KRW 50,000 to an additional ten lucky parents.

Furthermore, Samsung Securities aims to incentivize early investment. Parents who maintain a balance of at least KRW 1 million (approximately USD 750 based on current exchange rates) in the newly opened minor account will be entered into another draw, with ten winners receiving gift certificates valued at KRW 50,000 and three grand prize winners receiving certificates worth KRW 100,000 (approximately USD 75).

Beyond these immediate rewards, Samsung Securities is also providing significant benefits for the young investors themselves. All first-time minor account holders who complete the online opening process will enjoy a reduced online trading commission of 0% for US stocks and preferential rates for domestic stocks for a period of three months. Additionally, new minor account holders are eligible to receive up to $100 in investment support funds for trading overseas equities, providing a valuable boost to their initial investment endeavors.

The advantages of establishing a custodial investment account for a child extend far beyond promotional offers. Such accounts serve as a powerful tool for parents to instill financial responsibility and provide practical financial education from an early age. Instead of simply receiving allowances, children can witness firsthand how their money can grow through strategic investments, fostering an understanding of savings, investment, and the concept of compound interest – a cornerstone of long-term wealth accumulation.

Moreover, these accounts offer significant tax benefits. In South Korea, the gift tax exemption allows parents to gift up to KRW 20 million (approximately USD 15,000) to their minor children over a ten-year period without incurring gift tax. By utilizing custodial accounts, parents can strategically leverage this exemption, gradually transferring assets to their children in a tax-efficient manner, laying a solid financial foundation for their future. This proactive approach to wealth transfer can provide children with a significant financial head start as they enter adulthood.

The process of opening a custodial account with Samsung Securities is designed to be convenient for parents who already have an existing account with the brokerage. The necessary documentation includes the parent's identification, a family relationship certificate and a basic certificate (which can often be automatically submitted through a data scraping service), and details of a bank account held under the parent's name at another financial institution. This streamlined process underscores Samsung Securities' commitment to making investment accessible to families.

This initiative by Samsung Securities reflects a growing recognition of the importance of early financial education and the benefits of long-term investing. By incentivizing parents to open investment accounts for their children, the brokerage is not only attracting new clients but also contributing to the development of a more financially literate future generation. Custodial accounts empower parents to actively participate in their children's financial development, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the financial world.

The trend of early financial education is gaining momentum globally, with research consistently highlighting the positive impact of introducing financial concepts to children at a young age. Studies have shown that children who receive financial education tend to make more informed financial decisions as adults, exhibit better saving habits, and are less likely to accumulate excessive debt. By facilitating the opening of custodial accounts, Samsung Securities is playing a crucial role in fostering these positive financial behaviors in the next generation.

Furthermore, the act of investing, even in small amounts, can serve as a valuable learning experience for children. As they track the performance of their investments, they begin to understand market dynamics, the importance of diversification, and the potential for long-term growth. This hands-on experience can demystify the world of finance and empower them to become confident and informed investors in the future.

Samsung Securities' "Seed of Asset Growth with Our Children" event is more than just a promotional campaign; it is an investment in the financial well-being of the next generation. By providing incentives and simplifying the process of opening custodial accounts, the brokerage is encouraging parents to take a proactive role in their children's financial education and long-term prosperity. This initiative has the potential to cultivate a new generation of savvy investors, contributing to a more financially secure future for individuals and the nation as a whole. Parents interested in learning more about this opportunity are encouraged to visit the Samsung Securities website or the 'mPOP' mobile application for comprehensive details or to contact the Family Center for personalized assistance.
