Atlanta: The World Korean Association (Chairman Ko Sang-gu) and Ewha Medical Center (President Yoo Kyung-ha) announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation to enhance medical convenience for overseas Koreans residing abroad. The signing ceremony was held on April 18th at the Gas South Convention Center, the venue of the 23rd World Korean Business Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

This agreement was facilitated through the booth set up by Ewha Medical Center within the Miracle Medi Special Zone Pavilion, which the medical center formed with Gangseo-gu medical institutions at the World Korean Business Convention. Notably, Ewha Medical Center President Yoo Kyung-ha personally attended the convention, expressing her commitment to improving access to medical services for overseas Koreans.

Ko Sang-gu, Chairman of the World Korean Association, who previously served as the President of the Korean Association in Vietnam and currently holds the position of Vice-Chair of the Asia-Pacific Regional Council of the Presidential Committee on Peaceful Unification of Korea, finalized the MOU during his visit to Atlanta for the Steering Committee meeting of the 2025 World Korean Association Presidents Convention.

Through this agreement, both organizations have agreed to establish a mutual cooperation system to enable overseas Koreans residing in various parts of the world to access Ewha Medical Center's high-quality health checkups and specialized treatments more quickly and conveniently. Specific areas of cooperation discussed include △development of customized health checkup programs for overseas Koreans, △establishment of online consultation and appointment systems, and △building a cooperative network with local medical institutions.

Meanwhile, the Steering Committee meeting of the World Korean Association Presidents Convention was unusually held during this World Korean Business Convention, drawing attention. The Steering Committee, chaired by Lee Sang-deok, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency, is scheduled to take place in Atlanta on April 19th. The meeting will be attended by heads of Korean associations from each continent, including Hyun Deok-soo, Chairman of the Korean Federation in Russia and CIS and Co-Chair of the upcoming World Korean Association Presidents Convention; Ko Tak-hee, President of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in China; Suh Jung-il, President of the Korean American Federation; and Lee Seok-ro, President of the Federation of Korean Canadian Associations, to discuss key issues facing the overseas Korean community.

The MOU signed between the World Korean Association and Ewha Medical Center is expected to significantly contribute to the health promotion of the 7.5 million overseas Koreans worldwide and is projected to serve as an important milestone presenting a cooperative model between the overseas Korean community and domestic medical institutions.
