Hà Nội – Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, a Politburo member and President of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), has called for enhanced cooperation between Việt Nam and Singapore, particularly in leadership development, research, and policy exchange. He expressed his hopes during a meeting in Hà Nội on Thursday with Singaporean Ambassador to Việt Nam, Jaya Ratnam.
Thắng, who also chairs the Central Theory Council, believes that strengthened collaboration between the HCMA and Singaporean government partners will elevate the bilateral relationship. He acknowledged the significant progress made in recent years, citing it as a solid foundation for upgrading Việt Nam-Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He noted the rapid expansion of cooperation across various sectors, from national defense and security to emerging areas like the green and digital economies. He specifically highlighted Singapore's commitment to knowledge sharing in science, technology, and education.
Recalling a meeting between HCMA leaders and the Singaporean Ambassador last year, Thắng mentioned the participation of high-ranking Vietnamese officials in the Potential Leaders’ Programme in Singapore. He emphasized the value of the program in providing participants with scientific knowledge, insights into Singapore’s national development experience, governance skills, and vision. He stated that the trip was highly beneficial for Vietnamese officials working to translate sustainable development goals into reality.
Thắng also discussed Việt Nam’s ongoing government restructuring efforts, aimed at streamlining operations and improving effectiveness. He explained that the HCMA’s role in training and developing future leaders has become even more crucial following its merger with the National Academy of Public Administration and several Party agencies.
Ambassador Ratnam affirmed that the Việt Nam-Singapore partnership is fundamentally centered on human resource development, which he considers the cornerstone of bilateral relations. He expressed gratitude to the HCMA for its support in organizing two training courses for Vietnamese officials on national governance skills and vision in Singapore.
Ratnam pledged to enhance the effectiveness of Singapore's management training courses for Việt Nam, including the Leadership Governance and Potential Leaders’ programs. He also expressed Singapore's desire to collaborate with Việt Nam on green transition, digital transformation, and renewable energy initiatives. He emphasized the new slogan, "Partnership of a New Era,” for the Việt Nam-Singapore relationship, underscoring the commitment to future collaboration.
