Gyeongju, South Korea — The ancient city of Gyeongju is set to come alive with music as the 'Gyochon Busking' festival returns for its third year. From August 22nd to August 31st, the beautiful Gyochon Village will transform into a stage for a series of enchanting performances, offering locals and tourists a unique way to experience the city's rich history and vibrant culture.

Hosted by the City of Gyeongju, this year's festival promises an even richer and more diverse lineup. Twelve talented teams, hand-picked from a competitive pool of 223 applicants nationwide, will showcase their artistry in genres ranging from classical and jazz to acoustic and traditional Korean music (Gukak). These performances will take place at the courtyard in front of the Gyochon Village Promotion Center, with the breathtaking Woljeonggyo Bridge serving as a stunning backdrop. The bridge, beautifully illuminated at night, will add a touch of romance and grandeur to the performances, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.

A Celebration of Culture and Community

The Gyochon Busking festival was first launched in 2023 with the goal of adding a modern, musical flair to Gyeongju's historic nightlife. "The Gyochon Busking festival breathes life into Gyeongju's nights," said Seo Eun-suk, Head of the Tourism and Convention Division. "We hope that as we prepare to host the 2025 APEC summit, people from all over the world can come and enjoy Gyeongju's culture and art through events like this."

The city's efforts to blend its historical heritage with contemporary art forms have been a resounding success. Events like the busking festival not only attract visitors but also foster a sense of community among residents, providing a platform for local artists and performers to share their talents.

Performance Schedule and Details

The performances are scheduled to take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 8:00 PM throughout the festival period. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, August 22nd
Saturday, August 23rd
Sunday, August 24th
Friday, August 29th
Saturday, August 30th
Sunday, August 31st

The festival's intimate setting in Gyochon Village, known for its traditional Hanok houses and tranquil ambiance, is expected to provide a perfect harmony with the diverse musical performances. This carefully curated blend of old and new is designed to offer a different kind of summer night experience, away from the typical hustle and bustle.

For those planning to attend, detailed information about the schedule, participating teams, and location can be found on the Gyeongju City Culture and Tourism website and the Gyeongju Arts Foundation website.

As the sun sets over the ancient city, the melodious sounds of the Gyochon Busking festival will fill the air, inviting everyone to slow down, listen, and immerse themselves in the unique beauty of Gyeongju. It's an opportunity to create lasting memories while celebrating the city's rich past and dynamic future. Don't miss this chance to be part of a truly magical summer night.
