DEOKSAN RESOM, SOUTH KOREA – Chungcheongnam-do Province is intensifying its collaborative efforts with its constituent cities and counties to advance lifelong learning initiatives in 2025. The province, in conjunction with the Chungnam Lifelong Education & Human Resource Development Institute, convened the first 'Chungnam Lifelong Education Promotion Council Meeting of 2025' on March 27th at Deoksan Resom.
The high-level meeting brought together approximately 60 key personnel, including heads of departments and staff responsible for lifelong learning at both the provincial and municipal/county levels. The primary objective was to foster a robust cooperative framework and address the evolving landscape of national lifelong education policies. Discussions centered on the respective roles and strategic responses of both metropolitan and local administrative bodies to these policy shifts in the coming year.
A significant component of the council meeting was a special lecture delivered by Professor Park Sun-kyung from Osan University. Professor Park's insightful presentation, themed 'The Role of Competitive Lifelong Learning Towards Sustainable Development Cities,' explored critical aspects of current lifelong education policies and the proactive roles local governments must adopt in response to changing societal and environmental contexts.
Following the lecture, a dedicated session led by Chungnam Province facilitated the sharing of pressing lifelong learning issues and the deliberation of key agenda items among representatives from the provincial government, the Chungnam Lifelong Education & Human Resource Development Institute, and the various cities and counties. Notably, discussions included the progress and implementation of the Chungnam Lifelong Learning Voucher program, a key initiative aimed at expanding access to educational opportunities for residents.
Choi Pil-hwan, Head of the Higher Education Policy Division for Chungnam Province, underscored the province's commitment, stating, "We are dedicated to strengthening cooperation and providing active support among the province, our cities and counties, and the Institute to further the advancement of lifelong learning throughout Chungnam."
Hwang Hwan-taek, Director of the Chungnam Lifelong Education & Human Resource Development Institute, echoed this sentiment, affirming, "We will exert our utmost efforts to implement lifelong learning programs that elevate the quality of life for all residents of Chungnam, ensuring that our initiatives effectively reflect both national and provincial lifelong education policies."
The Chungnam Lifelong Education Promotion Council, initially established in 2013 to address the growing need for interdepartmental dialogue on crucial lifelong learning matters, has been strategically enhanced this year. Reflecting the objectives of the 3rd Chungnam Lifelong Education Promotion Plan (2024-2028), the council has expanded its membership to include heads of lifelong learning departments from both the provincial and local levels, thereby elevating its significance and impact on the region's lifelong learning ecosystem.
