New Delhi, India – India and Bhutan have made significant progress in their ongoing efforts to demarcate their shared border, culminating in the finalization of a comprehensive work plan for the next three field seasons. This development emerged from a two-day meeting held in New Delhi, concluding on Friday, marking a crucial step in strengthening the enduring partnership between the two nations.

The meeting, focused on reviewing the progress of boundary-related fieldwork, underscored the robust and cooperative relationship between India and Bhutan. "India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, underpinned by mutual trust, shared values, and utmost goodwill at all levels," stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), highlighting the significance of the discussions.

The Indian delegation was led by Surveyor General Hitesh Kumar S Makwana, while the Bhutanese side was headed by Dasho Letho T Tangbi, Secretary of the International Boundaries of the Royal Government of Bhutan.

The MEA statement revealed that both delegations expressed satisfaction with the work completed by their respective field survey teams and other stakeholders. This positive assessment reflects the collaborative spirit and meticulous approach adopted by both countries in addressing boundary-related matters.

A key focus of the meeting was the exploration of potential technological and capacity-building collaborations in survey and boundary work. This initiative aims to leverage advanced technologies and expertise to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the demarcation process, aligning with the priorities of both governments.

Furthermore, discussions addressed the importance of maintaining open communication and cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the agreed-upon work plan. The finalized plan for the next three field seasons will guide the joint efforts of the survey teams, ensuring a systematic and coordinated approach to the remaining demarcation tasks.

This advancement in border delimitation not only strengthens the bilateral relationship but also contributes to regional stability and security. The ongoing cooperation between India and Bhutan exemplifies a model of peaceful and constructive engagement in resolving boundary issues.

The successful conclusion of the New Delhi meeting reaffirms the commitment of both nations to fostering a strong and enduring partnership, built on mutual respect and cooperation.
