Bogotá, Colombia – In a move that secures the future of one of Bogotá's most beloved cinema chains, the Superintendency of Companies has confirmed a reorganization agreement with Procinal Bogotá Ltda., the owner of Cinemas Procinal. This agreement comes after a challenging period for the company, which, like many in the entertainment industry, was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Legacy Preserved

Founded on April 13, 1988, Cinemas Procinal has been a staple of Bogotá's cultural scene for decades. Known for its commitment to providing quality cinematic experiences, including those in IMAX format, the company faced significant financial strain when the pandemic forced cinemas to close their doors.

Overcoming Adversity

The pandemic's impact on Procinal's cash flow necessitated a recovery process, culminating in the recently confirmed reorganization agreement. This agreement, valid for 10 years, allows the company to address its liabilities, which exceed $51 billion.

Key Points of the Agreement:

Continued Operations: Procinal will continue its core business activities, including the purchase, sale, distribution, exhibition, and production of films.
Job Security: The agreement safeguards the jobs of 170 direct employees.
Financial Obligations: A structured plan is in place to ensure the payment of outstanding debts to creditors.
Social Security Compliance: The agreement includes strict oversight of the company's compliance with social security obligations to its workers.

Superintendency's Role

The Superintendency of Companies played a crucial role in facilitating the agreement. Superintendent Billy Escobar emphasized the entity's commitment to protecting companies, creditors, and workers' rights. He highlighted the careful monitoring of pension and health contributions, showcasing the Superintendency's effective mediation in achieving consensus between stakeholders.

Looking Ahead

With this reorganization agreement, Cinemas Procinal is poised to continue its legacy in Bogotá's entertainment landscape. The agreement not only protects the company's future but also ensures the continued employment of its staff and the preservation of a key cultural asset in the city.
