The Gyeongbuk Culture & Tourism Organization (President Kim Nam-il, hereinafter referred to as the "Organization") announced that the “2026 Gyeongbuk Baekdudaegan Trail 6 Challenge” successfully concluded its run with the final event held in Yecheon on the 31st.
Marking its 2nd anniversary this year, the event was designed to foster region-specific trail courses into tourism contents by utilizing the outstanding forest tourism resources of the Gyeongbuk Baekdudaegan, thereby promoting regional tourism through forest tourism.
Building on the enthusiastic response from last year’s inaugural event, this year’s challenge was operated in a relay format sequentially connecting six cities and counties: Sangju (June 20), Gimcheon (September 19), Mungyeong (October 3), Bonghwa (October 10), Yeongju (October 24), and Yecheon (October 31). A cumulative total of over 1,650 participants took part across the six sessions, experiencing the beautiful nature and diverse charms of forest tourism in the Gyeongbuk Baekdudaegan.
Participants took time to rest and recharge away from everyday life while walking along forest paths that highlight the unique characteristics of each region. In particular, the event added significant meaning by connecting trail courses across the six regions into a single tourism content spanning 134km, promoting the abundant forest tourism resources of the Gyeongbuk Baekdudaegan and expanding the potential for inter-regional connected tourism.
Building on this challenge, the Organization plans to strengthen the forest tourism competitiveness of the Gyeongbuk Baekdudaegan and continuously discover and promote region-specific trail courses. Furthermore, the Organization aims to induce tourist visits and stays by linking forest tourism resources with unique local culture and tourism content, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Kim Nam-il, President of the Gyeongbuk Culture & Tourism Organization, stated, “This Baekdudaegan Trail 6 Challenge was a meaningful opportunity to directly experience Gyeongbuk’s beautiful forest paths and promote the forest tourism charm inherent in each region. Moving forward, we will continue to discover differentiated tourism contents utilizing the outstanding forest resources of the Baekdudaegan and link them with local tourism resources to enhance the competitiveness of Gyeongbuk’s forest tourism.”
