Pop Star and 'Wicked' Lead Pleads with Fans to Stop Body Shaming Ariana Grande shared a clip from a past interview on Instagram, urging the public to stop commenting on others' appearance, describing the pressure she has faced since her teenage years.
Pop star and 'Wicked' lead actress, Ariana Grande (32), has once again urged her fans to refrain from making judgments about other people's bodies.
On November 29 (local time), Grande posted a segment of a 2024 interview on her Instagram Story, adding the caption: "Just a friendly reminder to you all."
In the archived video, Grande spoke candidly about the intense scrutiny she has experienced since the beginning of her career. "I've been a petri dish sample since I was 16, 17, and I’ve heard all the talk about what was wrong with me," she shared. "And then I fixed the things that were pointed out, and then I was told that 'there's something wrong with your body and your face and everything' for another reason."
Grande emphasized the societal comfort with commenting on strangers' looks, calling the practice "uncomfortable and horrible."
"We've become comfortable with commenting on other people's appearances or their health, and that is a comfort level that we should not feel," she stressed. "Regardless of the place or the extent to which you're saying it, it’s uncomfortable and horrible."
The singer confessed that the pressure of this "noise" has been a constant in her life. "I know what that pressure of that noise is like. It’s been a part of my life since I was 17," she said. "I no longer accept it. I have work to do, a life to live, and friends to love."
Expressing gratitude for her support system, she added, "I feel incredibly lucky that I have the support system that I have, and that I know and believe that I am beautiful."
Grande’s message concluded with advice for those who suffer from public scrutiny: "Protect yourselves from the noise in your life as much as you possibly can."
According to the US entertainment magazine People, this is not the first time Grande has tackled the issue of body shaming. In April 2023, she uploaded a three-minute monologue on TikTok criticizing the public's critique of her physical appearance.
"You never know what someone is going through," she said at the time. "Even if you’re coming from a loving place or a caring place, that person is probably working on it, or they have a support system that they’re working on it with. So, be softer and gentler with one another, and with yourselves."
Grande, who rose to prominence after appearing in a Broadway musical at age 15 in 2008 and later starred in several popular TV series, became a global pop sensation with a string of hit albums starting in 2013. Her candid plea serves as a potent reminder of the need for greater empathy in the public discourse surrounding celebrities' bodies and health.
