Seoul, South Korea – LG Display, a leading global OLED panel manufacturer, has unveiled its 4th generation OLED TV panel, boasting industry-leading brightness and perfect black levels. This latest innovation comes as the global display market faces a downturn, and LG Display aims to carve out a niche in the premium TV segment with its advanced OLED technology.
During a technical briefing held at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, LG Display showcased its new OLED panel capable of achieving a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, the highest in the industry. Brightness is a critical factor in determining image quality, as higher brightness levels enable more vivid and lifelike visuals.
Since introducing its first 55-inch OLED TV panel in 2013, LG Display has continually refined its OLED technology with the introduction of EX Technology in 2022 and META Technology in 2023. The 4th generation technology features a primary RGB tandem structure, stacking red, green, and blue subpixels independently to emit light. This four-layer structure, compared to the previous three-layer design, significantly increases light output, resulting in a 33% boost in peak brightness to 4,000 nits.
Another notable feature of the new panel is its ability to deliver perfect blacks. Traditional displays tend to reflect ambient light, causing issues like glare and color washout, especially in bright environments. To address this, LG Display has developed a special low-reflection film that effectively eliminates light reflections from the panel. The company claims that this film blocks up to 99% of both internal and external light reflections, enabling users to enjoy deep, rich blacks even in brightly lit rooms.
Despite being a dominant player in the global OLED market, LG Display has faced challenges in recent years due to a slowdown in the overall IT and TV markets. However, the company is confident that its premium OLED TVs will drive growth in a market that is increasingly demanding higher performance displays. With the rise of AI-powered TVs capable of real-time content analysis and upscaling to 8K resolution, the demand for high-brightness and energy-efficient panels is on the rise.
LG Display plans to equip its top-tier TV lineup with the 4th generation OLED panel this year, aiming to solidify its dominance in the premium TV segment. By offering superior picture quality and innovative features, the company hopes to differentiate its products from competitors and stimulate demand in the challenging market.
