Aims for Full Implementation in Second Half of 2025… Provides Safety Training on Alternative Fuels and New Technologies

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced on Thursday the launch of a digital platform to enhance maritime workforce training. The platform is expected to be fully implemented in the second half of 2025.

The prototype Maritime Energy Training Facility digital platform, showcased as part of Singapore Maritime Week 2025, is designed to provide training on the safe handling of alternative marine fuels and new technologies.

According to an MPA press release, shipping companies, seafarers, and maritime professionals will be able to use the platform to search for, register for, and pay for courses, as well as track their training progress and certifications.

Currently, the platform is only available to Singapore-based shipping companies and Singapore-flagged vessels. The next phase will see the expansion of access to more companies and international stakeholders.

The newly launched digital platform is a crucial part of Singapore's ongoing digital transformation strategy for the maritime industry. As a global shipping hub, Singapore is actively adopting digital technologies to enhance the efficiency of maritime operations and secure new growth engines.

Key Features and Expected Benefits of the Platform:

Integrated Management of Training Courses: It is expected to significantly improve convenience by allowing users to check and apply for course information from various maritime training institutions in one place. Customized Learning Support: It can recommend training courses tailored to individual careers and needs and maximize training effectiveness through learning progress management. Increased Efficiency in Certification Management: By digitally managing training completion records and certification information, it is expected to reduce the administrative burden for seafarers and shipping companies. Establishment of a Foundation for International Cooperation: By expanding the platform's accessibility internationally in the future, it can lay the groundwork for global maritime workforce development and cooperation. Leading Education in Future Maritime Technologies: By providing educational content related to future maritime technologies such as alternative fuels and autonomous vessels, it is expected to contribute to nurturing talent that will lead innovation in the maritime industry. The launch of this digital platform by the MPA of Singapore is expected to accelerate the digital transformation of the maritime industry and play a vital role in strengthening the capabilities of the maritime workforce. It is also anticipated to contribute to further enhancing Singapore's competitiveness in the global shipping market.
