Comedian Kim Byung-man Admits to Two Children Out of Wedlock, Citing Marriage's End

SEOUL – In a revelation that has sent ripples through the entertainment industry, comedian Kim Byung-man has publicly acknowledged fathering two children out of wedlock, a development his agency clarifies occurred after the dissolution of his prior marriage. The entertainer, 50, is slated to marry the children's mother on September 20, with their story to be featured on a popular television program. The announcement, however, is unfolding against a backdrop of complex legal and family disputes, including a paternity lawsuit filed by his adopted daughter.

On August 7, Kim's agency, Sky Turtle, issued a statement confirming the comedian’s upcoming nuptials and the existence of two children from his relationship with his fiancée. The agency emphasized that the children were born after his previous marriage had become "irretrievably broken," a point of significant distinction in the ongoing narrative. This statement seeks to preemptively address public scrutiny and contextualize the timeline of events. The agency also noted it had not yet received details on a separate inheritance-related lawsuit filed by his former stepdaughter, indicating a multifaceted legal battle is underway.

The couple's wedding is reportedly scheduled for a broadcast on TV Chosun’s reality show "Lovers of Joseon," a move that will bring this intensely personal story into the public eye. The show's focus on celebrity relationships has a track record of generating both high ratings and considerable public commentary.

The news comes as Kim Byung-man faces a legal challenge from his adopted daughter, identified as A, who has filed a paternity lawsuit. A claims the two children were born during the period when Kim was still legally married to her mother, B. She has formally requested a court-ordered DNA test to verify the children's lineage. This legal action introduces a direct contradiction to the agency’s timeline and raises questions about the exact sequence of events leading to the comedian's current situation.

Kim Byung-man's family history has become a subject of public fascination and legal entanglements. He married B in 2010 and subsequently adopted her daughter, A, as a "친양자" (close-kin adoptee), a legal status in Korea that grants the adoptee the same rights as a biological child. The marriage, however, began to unravel, with news of their separation emerging in 2019. The divorce was finalized in 2023 after a protracted legal battle.

In the years following their separation, Kim Byung-man has made three attempts to legally dissolve his parental relationship with A through "파양" (annulment of adoption) lawsuits. The first two attempts were dismissed by the court, highlighting the legal complexities and the judiciary's careful consideration of family ties. The verdict for the third and most recent lawsuit was scheduled to be announced on August 8. The outcome of this case is particularly significant, as it could have a profound impact on the legal standing of both Kim Byung-man and his adopted daughter.

The confluence of these events—an impending marriage, the admission of children out of wedlock, and a high-stakes legal dispute with his adopted daughter—paints a picture of a celebrity navigating profound personal and legal challenges under the intense glare of the media. The various claims and counterclaims surrounding the timeline of the children's births and the annulment of his adoption have created a narrative rife with complexity, leaving the public to piece together the truth from conflicting reports and legal filings.
