Paraguay's Two-Wheeled Thrill: Motoviajero Craze Sweeps the Nation

A new trend in domestic travel is emerging in Paraguay: "Motoviajero," where people explore the country on motorcycles. This unique way of traveling, combining thrilling excitement, adventure, and a passion for motorcycles, is capturing the hearts of many.

"Life to Ride" with Friends

Marcelo Almada, president of "Motoviajero Paraguay," says that "riding with friends" is the easiest way to bring all this passion together. Started in 2017 under the slogan "Life to ride," "Motoviajero Paraguay" began as a group of friends who loved riding motorcycles and wanted to explore Paraguay.

Almada explains, "Motoviajero is a group of people who enjoy traveling on motorcycles with friends, whether day or night. We value discovering the hidden beauty of Paraguay, exploring various routes from the Central region to even more distant places."

"Motoviajero" organizes various "road trips" throughout Paraguay, and anyone can participate as long as they have safety gear and good companions.

"Recently, we went moto-camping in Baracayu (Alto Paraná Department) at the Moisés Bertoni Reserve. It was meaningful because the place is rich in history and has women learning about the hotel and tourism sector. We also visited Hohenau (Itapúa Department) and plan to visit the Chaco region. We are pioneers in organizing various free activities," Almada added.

Currently, "Motoviajero" has 450 members who communicate through a WhatsApp group. They aim to explore new routes with more motorcycle enthusiasts in the future.

"Our slogan is 'Life to ride.' 'Motoviajero' is like a big group of friends. We don't force anyone and value having good company. Anyone with a motorcycle can join, and anyone who wants to ride with us is welcome," Almada said.

More Adventures: "Night Ride Off-Road"

In addition to domestic travel, "Motoviajero" also organizes a special activity called "Night Ride Off-Road." This involves riding motorcycles through major cities like San Bernardino, Altos, Atyra, Caacupé, and Paraguari at night. Recently, it was successfully held in Chaco'i with many participants.

Almada explains, "We survey the routes in advance to ensure they are suitable for riding. We recruit participants through WhatsApp groups and our Instagram and Facebook (@motoviajeroparaguay) pages."

"I lead the group, selecting the route and guiding others while considering speed, road conditions, and potential hazards. We enjoy the cool night weather and the beautiful scenery, and we try not to disturb the residents," he added.

Future Plans: "Infierno Verde" Rally

According to Almada, "Motoviajero" plans to visit various regions, including Nueva Colombia, Altos, and San Bernardino. They are looking for routes that allow them to enjoy Paraguay's nature and scenery without disturbing the daily lives of city residents.

"Motorcycles are a great means of transportation, but they must be used responsibly. Learning and mastering riding skills is essential for safe riding," Almada emphasized.

"Motoviajero" will host the "Infierno Verde" motorcycle endurance race in the Paraguayan Chaco region on June 14 and 15. This event is known as one of the toughest races in South America.

"We are organizing the 'Infierno Verde' rally in the Chaco region. Chaco tourism is developing thanks to motorcycle enthusiasts. We will ride 1,600 km along the PY12 road to General Díaz, Loma Plata, and Puerto Casado over two days," Almada explained.

Additionally, "Motoviajero" offers free Moto Gymkhana classes twice a month at the Costanera Norte parking lot. Moto Gymkhana is a Japanese motorcycle riding skill training sport that helps prevent accidents. This is the only motorcycle riding education institution in Paraguay, and anyone over 18 with a motorcycle can participate for free.

"Motoviajero" has requested the authorities to reinstall the lighting at the training site to provide a better learning environment. Almada stated that they have made several requests but have not yet received a response.
