El Salvador has emerged as a global leader in tourism recovery, ranking second worldwide in its rebound from the challenges of 2019, according to the latest UN Tourism Barometer. This impressive resurgence is a testament to the country's diverse tourism offerings, commitment to sustainability, and effective strategies.

A Multifaceted Destination

Tourism Minister Morena Valdez proudly highlights El Salvador's ability to cater to a wide range of interests. Visitors can explore pristine beaches like El Sunzal and Los Cóbanos, renowned for their world-class surfing waves and delectable seafood. Nature enthusiasts can venture to majestic volcanoes, serene lakes, and lush rivers. The country's rich history is showcased in captivating cities like Suchitoto and Ataco, as well as remarkable archaeological sites.

Sustainable and Responsible Tourism

El Salvador's dedication to sustainable, accessible, and responsible tourism has been a key factor in its success. The country has witnessed an impressive surge in international tourist arrivals, soaring from 1.7 million in 2019 to 3.9 million in 2024, marking an 81% increase.

Top Rankings and Recognition

The UN Tourism Barometer has bestowed numerous accolades upon El Salvador. In the Western Hemisphere, it proudly holds the top spot for tourism recovery, surpassing destinations like Curaçao, Colombia, and Guatemala. On a global scale, it trails only Qatar in this category.

Furthermore, El Salvador has earned the distinction of being the second-best performing destination worldwide in terms of tourism revenue growth, boasting a remarkable 206% increase. This achievement underscores the country's ability to attract high-spending visitors.

Surfing, Gastronomy, and Warm Hospitality

El Salvador's strategic promotion of surfing has resonated with travelers, drawing them to its exceptional waves and vibrant surf culture. The country's culinary scene, with its emphasis on fresh seafood and local delicacies like pupusas, has also garnered rave reviews. Visitors consistently express their appreciation for the warmth and friendliness of the Salvadoran people.

A Bright Future for Tourism

With its exceptional tourism performance, El Salvador has solidified its position as a premier destination in Central America. The country's commitment to sustainability, diverse attractions, and warm hospitality ensures a bright future for its tourism sector.
