Bucheon City Installs Solar-Powered Building Number Plates in 25 Vulnerable Alleyways

Improving night visibility in crime-vulnerable areas… Supporting citizen safety and emergency response

Bucheon City has installed solar-powered building number plates across 25 crime-vulnerable alleyways in the area of Jungdong-ro 408-gil, Sinhheung-dong, Ojeong-gu, aiming to improve nighttime pedestrian environments and facilitate rapid location identification during emergencies.

This initiative was carried out as a pilot project targeting alleyways where building numbers are difficult to identify due to low nighttime illumination. It is designed to create an environment where citizens can easily check addresses even at night and walk with peace of mind.

The solar-powered building number plate utilizes energy charged by sunlight during the day to illuminate and display building numbers at night. Installed without the need for separate electrical wiring, it allows building numbers to be easily identified even in dark alleyways. This is expected to help individuals convey their exact location when reporting emergencies or crimes.

The city conducted field surveys focusing on crime-vulnerable alleyways and safe return routes home, comprehensively considering factors such as surrounding illumination, building structures, and pedestrian environments to select the 25 installation sites.

The city plans to continuously monitor the operational status and nighttime identification effectiveness of the newly installed building number plates. In addition, in cooperation with related organizations such as the police, the city will evaluate the installation's effectiveness from a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) perspective and review ways to expand the project to additional areas where installation is deemed necessary.

A Bucheon City official stated, "We hope this project will contribute to improving the nighttime pedestrian environment and enable swift location identification during emergencies," adding, "We will continue to work closely with related organizations to create a safe and convenient walking environment."
