Deception Hidden Behind Patriotism: A YouTuber’s “Insurrection-Fanning” Concert

The attempt to degrade March 1st—a sacred national anniversary—into a mere stage for far-right political agitation has been laid bare. The controversy surrounding the so-called "Liberty Concert," spearheaded by YouTuber Jeon Han-gil, transcends mere operational incompetence; it represents a quintessential "fraudulent political maneuver" designed to deceive pop culture artists and exploit the patriotism of citizens.

The crux of this incident lies in "intentional concealment" and "forced labeling." During the casting process, the organizers utterly concealed the fact that the performance was a political rally aimed at rallying specific political factions and defending a former president who faced judicial judgment for insurrection. Renowned artists like Tae Jin-ah and Cho Jang-hyuk agreed to participate based solely on the noble cause of a March 1st commemorative event. Consequently, they suffered the humiliation of being trapped in the political frame of "right-wing entertainers" against their own will.

Jeon revealed his overt political motives on his broadcast, stating he would "show the strength of the right wing" and urging the crowd to "shout 'Yoon-Again'." This is not only a betrayal of trust toward the performers but also a shallow scheme that reduces art to a tool for political propaganda. The consecutive withdrawal of artists claiming they were "tricked," followed by warnings of legal action, is a natural expression of anger and resistance against their names being used to glorify insurrection and divide national opinion.

Even more contemptible is the attitude of evading responsibility. As the controversy intensified, Jeon’s side shifted the blame to the event agency, claiming they had no direct involvement in casting or poster production. Yet, Jeon continues to portray himself as a persecuted martyr, lamenting a "reality where one must be wary of political leanings." This is a classic sophistry typical of far-right agitators who distort facts and deceive the public without a shred of remorse.

The fact that the reservation rate for the 10,000-seat venue stands at less than 7% is a testament to the health of our civil society. The public is no longer swayed by provocations that usurp the noble values of "patriotism" and "liberty" to flaunt personal influence or deny the constitutional order.

Jeon must immediately cease his deceptive acts that tarnish the original meaning of the March 1st Movement. Attempting to argue the legitimacy of an insurrection while chanting the name of a specific politician on a day meant to honor the spirits of fallen patriots is an insult to history. The "box office disaster" and the "boycott by artists" prove that a stage built on lies is destined to collapse under its own weight.
