
The Silicon Valley Korean American Federation (President Dong-ok Woo, Board Chair Hang-ja Yoon) successfully concluded the "Silicon Valley Korean American Awards" on December 27. The event served as a year-end celebration to honor the achievements within the local Korean American community.
Held at the Los Altos Community Center, the ceremony was attended by approximately 150 people, including prominent local figures and community members. Notable guests included Deputy Consul General Sang-deok Na of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco, Santa Clara County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga, Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor, and Saratoga City Councilmember Yan Zhao.
The event was co-hosted by Emily Yang and Yu-jun Kim. In her welcoming remarks, Board Chair Hang-ja Yoon explained the purpose of the event, stating, "This is a place to encourage and express our gratitude to those who have silently dedicated themselves to the community throughout the year."
Deputy Consul General Sang-deok Na delivered a congratulatory speech, praising the awardees and organizers: "The solidarity and service shown by the Silicon Valley Korean American community are deeply resonating within the broader region."
Major Awards and Honorees
2025 Community Service Award: Rae-il Park, Su-chang Moon, Mi-ah Park, and Joseph Lim were honored for their continuous service and contributions to the development of the local community across various fields.
Service and Appreciation Award: This award was presented to 16 members of the MUSE Ensemble in recognition of their community service through culture and the arts. The awards were co-presented by Board Chair Hang-ja Yoon and Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga.
Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga expressed her gratitude during her speech, noting, "The cultural and service activities of the Korean American community are vital assets that strengthen the diversity and solidarity of Santa Clara County."
Empowering the Next Generation
The ceremony also featured a service award and scholarship presentation for KAYA (Korean American Youth Association). Founded with the support of President Dong-ok Woo and the Silicon Valley Korean American Federation, KAYA aims to nurture the next generation of Korean American leaders. The organization has become a model for local youth programming, notably receiving a total of $70,000 in funding from Santa Clara County this year.
The "2025 Korean American Awards" was evaluated as a meaningful occasion that highlighted the dedication of individuals and organizations to community growth while reaffirming the values of solidarity and sharing within the Silicon Valley Korean American community.
