Andong, South Korea – Yecheon County, North Gyeongsang Province, is making significant strides towards entering the global marketplace, showcasing the potential of its regional agricultural and food products at the recently concluded '2025 Korea Business Expo Andong'. The event, held from April 29th to 30th in the neighboring city of Andong, served as a crucial platform for Yecheon's local enterprises to connect with international buyers and explore opportunities for overseas expansion.

The Korea Business Expo Andong, a large-scale international business event hosted by the World Federation of Korean Trade Associations (World-OKTA), attracted over 2,000 domestic and international buyers. The expo provided a vital forum for discussions on the future of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the regional agricultural sector in South Korea.

Yecheon County fielded a delegation of five promising local companies: Honey Masil, Nongbu Changgo (Farmer's Warehouse), Park Hae-young Sigol Jandae (Park Hae-young's Rural Adenophora stricta), Yangjam Nonghyup (Sericulture Agricultural Cooperative), and Wooil Beverage. These enterprises presented a diverse array of Yecheon's specialty products, including convenient honey sticks, traditional ginger syrup, health-boosting Adenophora stricta pills, nutrient-rich silkworm powder, and locally produced beverages.

A key highlight of the expo for the Yecheon delegation was the dedicated 1:1 business consultations with overseas buyers. These meetings transcended mere product introductions, evolving into opportunities to build trust in the quality and vision of Yecheon's agricultural sector. The direct interaction allowed local producers to understand international market demands and tailor their strategies accordingly.

Kim Hak-dong, the Governor of Yecheon County, actively participated in the expo, demonstrating his commitment to bolstering the local economy. He met with representatives from the participating export companies to acknowledge their efforts and discuss their achievements. Furthermore, Governor Kim held direct meetings with international buyers, underscoring the county's proactive approach to facilitating global partnerships and attracting foreign investment. This hands-on engagement by the local government leader has been lauded as an exemplary model of field-oriented administration aimed at revitalizing the regional economy.

Governor Kim emphasized the significance of the expo, stating, "It is my hope that this business expo will serve as a stepping stone for Yecheon's export companies to establish a strong foundation for overseas expansion." He further pledged the county's ongoing support to secure stable export channels and increase the income of local farming households. This commitment includes potential initiatives such as export subsidies, market research support, and participation in future international trade events.

The participation in the Korea Business Expo Andong is anticipated to significantly elevate the standing of Yecheon's agri-food industry on the global stage. It has provided small-scale farmers and regional businesses with a direct gateway to the international market, potentially diversifying their revenue streams and reducing reliance on domestic sales. Beyond simply showcasing local specialties, this initiative aims to cultivate a sustainable export framework and drive the added value of the agricultural sector within Yecheon County.

Industry analysts suggest that Yecheon's strategic focus on high-quality, locally sourced products aligns well with the growing global demand for premium agricultural goods and health-conscious food options. The unique characteristics of Yecheon's produce, such as the specific terroir contributing to the flavor of its honey and the traditional processing methods used for its ginger and Adenophora stricta, offer a distinct competitive advantage in the international market.

Moreover, the inclusion of the Yangjam Nonghyup with its silkworm powder highlights Yecheon's efforts to innovate and diversify its agricultural offerings. Silkworm powder is gaining recognition as a nutrient-dense food source, particularly in Asian markets, presenting a niche opportunity for Yecheon to capitalize on emerging health trends.

The success of Yecheon's participation in the expo is not solely measured by immediate sales figures but also by the valuable connections forged with international distributors, retailers, and potential investors. These relationships can pave the way for long-term partnerships and sustained export growth. Follow-up discussions and potential agreements stemming from the expo are expected in the coming months.

Looking ahead, Yecheon County plans to build upon this momentum by actively participating in other international trade shows and developing targeted marketing strategies to promote its agri-food products in key overseas markets. The county government is also exploring initiatives to enhance the export readiness of local businesses, including providing training on international trade regulations, packaging standards, and logistics.

The proactive approach taken by Yecheon County serves as an encouraging example for other rural regions in South Korea seeking to tap into the potential of the global market. By strategically leveraging international platforms like the Korea Business Expo Andong, Yecheon is not only promoting its local economy but also contributing to the broader narrative of South Korea's agricultural innovation and export competitiveness. The journey onto the world stage has begun, and Yecheon's agri-food sector appears poised for a promising future in the global landscape.
