State-of-the-art facility integrates ultra-large-scale genomic big data production with advanced artificial intelligence to dramatically scale productivity and reduce diagnostic costs.

SONGDO, South Korea — Macrogen, a leading global genomic analysis corporation, officially announced on Wednesday the grand opening of its "Songdo Global Genome Center." The inauguration ceremony, held on June 2 in the Songdo International Business District, Incheon, marks the formal commencement of the company's aggressive strategy to combine massive genomic big data infrastructure with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to pioneer the next generation of precision medicine.

The newly constructed Songdo Global Genome Center stands as a massive integrated precision medicine hub, boasting a total floor area of 18,500 square meters (approximately 5,600 pyeong) distributed across eight state-of-the-art floors. Engineered from the ground up for maximum operational efficiency, the center unifies the entire lifecycle of genomic analysis—from massive data sequencing to high-throughput computation and clinical AI interpretation—under a single, highly integrated ecosystem.

Architecturally and technologically designed to handle next-generation multi-omics analysis, the facility features fully automated and standardized equipment capable of processing not only standard genomic and transcriptomic sequencing but also highly complex single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. This advanced capability positions Macrogen at the absolute forefront of the global biomedical sector, enabling the rapid interpretation of structural and functional cellular data on an unprecedented scale.

Crucially, the center is equipped with an ultra-large-scale analytical infrastructure optimized to seamlessly execute high-profile national initiatives and expansive international consortium projects. Among these is the Korea National Bio-Big Data Project (K-DNA), a major government-led initiative aimed at establishing a comprehensive national genomic archive to accelerate domestic drug discovery and clinical breakthroughs.

The center currently processes approximately 300,000 human biological samples annually. This baseline capacity is projected to scale significantly as Macrogen expands its contract portfolio. The company confirmed that it has recently secured consecutive wins for major national projects, including the launch of the landmark Human Pangenome Project earlier this year and an upcoming Epigenome Project scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026.

Beyond its domestic functions, the Songdo Global Genome Center is designed to act as the primary operational nerve center for Macrogen’s sprawling network of international subsidiaries and branches, including those in the United States (Psomagen), Japan, and Europe. By integrating global operations under the Songdo hub, Macrogen aims to spearhead its ambitious "10-Million-Genome Big Data Project," a cross-border initiative focused on assembling one of the most ethnically diverse genomic repositories in existence.

To ensure data integrity and maximize throughput speed across this vast network, Macrogen is implementing a phased rollout of advanced robotic automation systems. These systems will govern the entire analytical pipeline, spanning from delicate sample pre-treatment to high-throughput sequencing. By eliminating human intervention from repetitive laboratory tasks, the company expects to minimize human error, achieve flawless data consistency, and securely supply high-quality datasets required for training its proprietary AI interpretation engines.

The financial and operational dividends of this transition are already materializing. Following the relocation of core operations from its previous site in Gasan, Seoul, to the newly automated Songdo facility, Macrogen reported a staggering 50% year-on-year increase in total genomic data production. Concurrently, individual per-capita productivity surged by approximately 40%. The company noted that these radical improvements in efficiency are central to its long-term corporate roadmap of continuously driving down the cost of comprehensive genomic analysis for patients worldwide.

Simultaneously, the completion of the Songdo center serves as the catalyst for an aggressive, company-wide AI Transformation (AX). Macrogen is heavily investing in upgrading its organizational workflow by deploying a cloud-based collaborative framework powered by Google Workspace (GWS). This internal infrastructure will be tightly integrated with specialized AI agents tailored for genomic interpretation, fostering a highly responsive, data-driven decision-making culture across all corporate divisions.

Industry analysts view the completion of the Songdo Global Genome Center as a pivotal milestone that cements South Korea's competitiveness in the global bio-health market. By combining high-throughput automated laboratories with deep-learning AI capabilities, Macrogen is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between raw genomic data and actionable, real-world clinical solutions, ultimately accelerating the realization of affordable, highly personalized healthcare on a truly global scale.
