Kansas City, MO - Former U.S. Senator Roy Blunt has been honored with the naming of the forthcoming freeway cap park over I-670 in downtown Kansas City as the 'Roy Blunt Luminary Park.' This recognition comes in light of his pivotal role in securing federal funding essential for the over $200 million project.

The park, envisioned as a 5.5-acre urban oasis, will span four blocks over the I-670 freeway, aiming to reconnect the Central Business District with the Crossroads Arts District. Plans for the park include expansive green spaces and a variety of public amenities.

In a statement released Friday, former Senator Blunt expressed his gratitude, saying, "I was glad to join the determination of Kansas City, the Downtown Council, and Port KC to create a special public space in the heart of downtown. It has been an honor to represent Missouri and Kansas City in the United States Senate and as Missouri’s Secretary of State. This park will be another place to reconnect the community and help define Kansas City as one of the best cities in America. I’m honored to be associated with it, and Abby and our entire family are grateful."

The project is a collaborative effort between the City of Kansas City, Port KC, and the Downtown Council, operating under the umbrella of the 'South Loop Project.' Further details regarding the project are available online.
