ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – Global hospitality group Minor Hotels has announced its entry into the Paraguayan market with plans to open an NH Collection brand hotel in the capital city of Asunción. With over 560 hotels in 58 countries, Minor Hotels aims to strengthen its presence in the South American market, recognizing the growing potential of Asunción as a tourism and business hub in Paraguay.
NH Collection Asunción to Reside in Paraguay's Tallest Building
The upcoming NH Collection Asunción hotel will be strategically located just 400 meters from the intersection of Asunción's main thoroughfares, Avenida Aviadores del Chaco and Avenida Santa Teresa. The hotel will be housed within a 70-plus-story mixed-use skyscraper, poised to become the tallest building in Asunción and the fourth-tallest tower in South America upon completion.
This ambitious complex is designed as a multipurpose hub featuring high-end residential spaces, corporate offices, commercial outlets, and ample parking, catering to both local residents and visitors. The hotel is slated to open in 2029 and will operate under the upper-upscale NH Collection brand, offering 80 sophisticated guest rooms.
Luxury and Convenience Combined with State-of-the-Art Amenities
NH Collection Asunción will target both business and leisure travelers, providing a luxurious design and exceptional service. The hotel will boast a full-service spa, swimming pool, upscale restaurants and bars, a panoramic terrace, a helipad, and modern meeting spaces, aiming to become a premier hospitality destination in the region.
Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas, stated, "We are confident that together with Grupo Petra, we will create a landmark hotel in Asunción. The introduction of NH Collection is a strategic move to expand our footprint in Paraguay and elevate the local hospitality scene with our distinctive product." He further added, "This hotel will not only be an architectural icon but also a turning point for the tourism experience in Asunción."
Collaboration with Leading Paraguayan Construction Firm Grupo Petra
The project is a collaboration with Grupo Petra, one of Paraguay's leading real estate companies. Grupo Petra has established a strong reputation for high-quality construction and innovative luxury developments and plans to invest between US$8 million and US$12 million in this hotel development. Upon opening, the hotel is expected to generate approximately 35 to 40 direct jobs, contributing to the local economy and tourism sector.
Carlos Guasti, Director of Grupo Petra, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We are delighted to embark on this project with Minor Hotels. With a partner who shares our passion for excellence and quality, we are confident that this hotel will be an exceptional landmark."
Growth of Paraguay's Tourism Market and Minor Hotels' Strategy
Minor Hotels' entry into Paraguay is driven by the consistent growth of the country's travel industry in both business and leisure segments, coupled with an increasing demand for high-quality accommodations. Asunción, in particular, is emerging as a center for international conventions and corporate events, providing an ideal environment for the NH Collection brand.
Following this project, Minor Hotels is exploring further expansion opportunities in secondary cities within Paraguay and in other key South American markets such as Chile, Argentina, and Peru. The group's growth strategy focuses on hotel management agreements and franchises, with a commitment to delivering innovative hospitality solutions and superior guest experiences.
Asunción Poised to Become a New Tourism Landmark
NH Collection Asunción represents more than just a hotel; it signifies a step towards redefining Paraguay's capital as a modern and dynamic city, injecting new vitality into the local tourism industry. Scheduled to open in 2029, the hotel is set to transform Asunción's skyline and play a significant role in positioning Paraguay as a premier luxury travel destination in South America.
