Meta unveils smart glasses 'Orion'... "Future device beyond smartphones"

[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  Meta created a huge stir in the industry by unveiling smart glasses 'Orion' as a next-generation device that goes beyond smartphones. On the 25th (local time), Meta presented the Orion prototype at the developer event 'Connect 2024' and declared that smart glasses will become a major computing device of the future.

Wearing Orion makes your everyday life smarter. For example, when you point food ingredients at Orion in front of the refrigerator, artificial intelligence recognizes them and shows various recipes that can be made with those ingredients in 3D images. Additionally, when a call comes in, you can start the call with just one finger, and a 3D image of the other person appears in front of you, allowing you to enjoy a vivid video call as if you were actually meeting face to face.

Orion solves tasks that would have been cumbersome with existing smartphones, such as running apps and touching the screen, right before your eyes. In particular, Orion provides a wide viewing angle of 70 degrees, breaking down the boundary between the real world and the virtual world and providing a more immersive experience.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg Meta emphasized that Orion will become a next-generation computing platform that surpasses smartphones, and expressed his ambition to lead the smart glasses market. He explained, “Orion is equipped with the most advanced technology among the smart glasses released so far, and is designed to be conveniently used in everyday life.”

Meta's release of Orion presents new possibilities in the smart glasses market and is raising expectations for the development of related technologies. However, there are still challenges to be solved, such as price, battery life, and privacy protection.

If Meta's Orion is successfully commercialized, our daily lives are expected to become smarter and more convenient. However, discussions on the social impact of these technological developments should also be actively conducted.
