[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  The remarkable development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is rapidly changing our lives. AI is already being used in various fields such as medicine, finance, and autonomous driving, increasing efficiency and opening up new possibilities. However, the development of AI does not only bring positive impacts to humans. Let’s look at the positive and negative aspects that AI can bring, and find ways to prepare for them.

Positive aspects of artificial intelligence (AI)

Increased efficiency: AI can improve productivity and save human labor by automating repetitive tasks and maximizing data analysis capabilities.

Creation of new services: AI can create new services in various fields and improve the quality of life by providing personalized services. For example, in the medical field, it can be used to diagnose and treat diseases to increase accuracy, and in the financial field, it can be used for investment advice and fraud detection to increase efficiency.

Replacement of work in hazardous environments: AI robots can reduce casualties by performing work in hazardous environments that are difficult for humans to access.

Creation of new jobs: New jobs can be created through the development of AI technology and the growth of related industries.

Convenient life: AI-based smart homes, self-driving cars, etc. make our lives more convenient and safer.

Negative aspects of artificial intelligence (AI)

Job decline: As AI replaces human jobs, unemployment may increase and social inequality may deepen.

Personal information leakage and misuse: AI poses a risk of personal information leakage and misuse in the process of learning massive amounts of data.

Algorithm bias: AI can produce discriminatory results by reflecting bias in learning data. For example, bias against a specific gender or race may occur during the hiring process.

Development of autonomous weapons: When AI technology is applied to autonomous weapons, it may lead to unpredictable results beyond human control.

Increasing human dependence: Excessive dependence on AI can reduce human thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Questions about the value of human existence: If AI reaches superintelligence that surpasses human intelligence, it will raise fundamental questions about the value of human existence.

AI is a powerful tool that can bring great benefits to humanity, but it is also a double-edged sword that can cause serious problems. With the development of AI technology, efforts are needed for the ethical development and use of AI through social consensus.

Establishment of AI ethical standards: Ethical standards for AI development and use must be established, and efforts to improve education and awareness must continue to ensure compliance with them.

Strengthening personal information protection: Personal information protection for data used for AI learning must be strengthened and data leakage and misuse must be prevented.

Ensuring Algorithm Transparency: The decision-making process of the AI algorithm should be transparently disclosed and efforts should be made to eliminate algorithmic bias.

Establishment of a social safety net: A social safety net must be established to prepare for social problems such as job loss that may occur due to AI.

Education system reform: The education system must be reformed to develop new capabilities needed in the AI era.

Strengthening international cooperation: We must seek to solve global problems through international cooperation in the development and use of AI technology.

AI is a technology that has the potential to bring many benefits to humanity. However, if personal information protection issues are not resolved during the AI development process, AI technology may encounter social resistance and hinder its development. Therefore, in the AI era, a new paradigm must be established to harmonize personal information protection and technological innovation. To this end, the government, businesses, and civil society must work together to create a transparent and responsible AI ecosystem.
