Cheongju City, North Chungcheong Province, Promotes Various Projects Aiming for 'Garden City Beautiful in All Four Seasons' by 2025

Cheongju City, North Chungcheong Province, is accelerating the creation of a 'garden city' by planting flowers throughout the downtown area. On the 16th, the city announced that it is promoting various projects to achieve its 8th popularly elected promise of 'Creating a Garden City Beautiful in All Four Seasons' by 2025.

Main Project Details:

Flower Garden Creation: Planting 50,000 plants including violas and pansies in the 1,000㎡ area of Bangseo Bridge in Bangseo-dong, Sangdang-gu (April).
Planting 200,000 seasonal flowers in spring and autumn in the 6,900㎡ flower garden in Uncheon-dong, Heungdeok-gu, and installing windmills and sculptures.
100,000 tulips in the 2,000㎡ tulip garden near the roller skating rink in Sajik-dong, Seowon-gu, are preparing to bloom.
Expanding the size of the tulip garden in Moonam Ecological Park (2,700㎡ → 6,000㎡), creating a tulip garden in spring and a verbena garden in summer, and installing photo zones.
Creating a flower path in the vacant lot in Sangdangsanseong (by June) and planting traditional flowering plants in the vacant lot near the West Gate direction walking trail (27,000㎡).
Spreading Garden Culture: Holding the 'Good for Water! Let's play together! To the Seed Garden' festival at Saengmyeong Nuri Park in Jungdong (May 9-11).
Operating a children's gardener experience program at Wol-dong flower nursery (until October).
Conducting citizen gardener training to train garden experts (until October).
Creation of Local Gardens: Selecting one of Moonam Ecological Park, Sangdangsanseong, and Miho River confluence to promote the creation of a local garden (by May).
Creating one local living garden in each of the four districts and 30 village-type living gardens.

Additional Information:

Cheongju City has established a 'Cheongju City Garden City Creation Basic Plan' with the goal of creating 113 gardens by 2028.
This plan will be implemented in short-term (2024-2025), mid-term (2026-2027), and long-term (2028~) stages.
Cheongju City plans to create gardens in major attractions such as Musimcheon, Moonam Ecological Park, Sangdangsanseong, and Cheongju Land, and promote various festivals, experiences, and education so that citizens can enjoy garden culture up close.

Expected Effects:

Providing healing spaces to citizens and improving quality of life.
Improving urban aesthetics and securing tourism resources.
Spreading garden culture and fostering related industries.

A Cheongju City official said, "Cheongju City is being reborn as a garden city where flowers and gardens harmonize throughout the four seasons. With the belief that even small spaces can impress citizens, we will continue to expand living gardens in the future."
