Ulsan, South Korea – The city of Ulsan is gearing up for a significant boost in tourism as the new high-speed rail service, KTX-Ium and ITX-Saemaeum, is set to begin operations in December. The introduction of these trains will significantly improve transportation links to Ulsan, making it more accessible to domestic and international tourists.

Enhanced Connectivity:

Starting from December 21st, the KTX-Ium will connect Seoul's Cheongnyangri Station to Busan's Busan Station, with stops at Ulsan's Taehwagang Station. The ITX-Saemaeum will also begin operating on the same route, and from December 31st, an additional ITX-Saemaeum service will connect Gangneung to Busan via Ulsan.

These new rail services will significantly reduce travel time to Ulsan, making it more attractive for tourists. For instance, the journey from Seoul to Ulsan will be shortened by about 30 minutes compared to the existing KTX line.

Tourism Infrastructure Development:

To capitalize on the increased accessibility, Ulsan city is investing in various tourism infrastructure projects. These include:

Expanding the tourist information center at Taehwagang Station.
Strengthening connections between the station and major tourist attractions such as Taehwagang National Garden, Dae왕암 Park, and Ganjeolgot.
Introducing city tour buses with a focus on providing a unique and enjoyable experience for tourists.
Investing in accessibility improvements for people with disabilities at major tourist sites.

Regional Tourism Collaboration:

Other cities along the Donghae line, such as Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, and Busan, are also preparing to attract more tourists. These regions are developing various tourism packages and promotions to capitalize on the increased connectivity.

Challenges and Opportunities:

While the new rail service presents significant opportunities for Ulsan, the city faces challenges in attracting tourists and retaining them. Competition from neighboring cities like Busan and other tourist destinations is expected to be intense.

Looking Ahead:

Ulsan city is committed to developing a diverse range of tourism programs and improving its infrastructure to attract more visitors. The city is also working closely with neighboring regions to create joint tourism products and promote the entire region as a tourist destination.

As the new high-speed rail service is set to launch, the city of Ulsan is poised to experience a significant boost in tourism. With its beautiful natural scenery, rich cultural heritage, and improved accessibility, Ulsan is well-positioned to become a popular tourist destination.
