Incheon, South Korea – Incheon Metropolitan City has formally initiated preparations for the 24th World Korean Business Convention (WKBC), slated for April or October 2026 at Songdo Convensia. This significant undertaking follows the ceremonial transfer of the convention flag from Lee Sang-deok, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA), to Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok at the Overseas Koreans Welcome Center in Songdo Bu Young Songdo Tower. Both organizations have committed to close collaboration for the event's success.
The decision to designate Incheon as the host city was finalized on April 17th (local time) at the 23rd World Korean Business Convention Steering Committee held in Atlanta, USA. This marks Incheon's third time hosting the prestigious event, having previously done so in 2009 and 2018. The upcoming 2026 convention holds added significance as it will be the first hosted in Incheon since the establishment of the OKA's main building in the city in June 2023.
Established in 2002, the WKBC is the largest economic networking forum for the Korean diaspora, bringing together approximately 3,000 Korean business leaders from 64 countries alongside domestic entrepreneurs. Its core objectives are to foster a robust global business network, support the overseas expansion of South Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and strengthen international economic cooperation. The convention serves as a dynamic platform for promoting innovation, advancing networking through B2B/B2G matchmaking, revitalizing cross-border knowledge exchange, and generating substantial economic impact through investment attraction and job creation.
Previous conventions have demonstrated significant economic ripple effects. For instance, the 22nd WKBC in Jeonbuk, South Korea, achieved a historic $630 million in export consultations. Historically, the WKBC has generated billions in business consultation value and created thousands of jobs, highlighting the substantial economic benefits for host cities.
Incheon City, in collaboration with the OKA, is meticulously organizing all aspects of the 2026 event, including welcoming receptions, transportation and logistics, accommodation, and volunteer coordination. The city projects a regional economic impact of approximately 17.7 billion won (approximately $13 million USD) from the convention. Beyond the immediate economic boost, Incheon aims to leverage the event to pursue sustainable follow-up initiatives that will contribute to long-term regional development.
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok emphasized Incheon's readiness, stating, "As a global economic city that the world is paying attention to, we will clearly showcase Incheon's capabilities and future vision to the participants." The state-of-the-art Songdo Convensia, a premier venue for international gatherings, is set to provide an ideal environment for this pivotal global business assembly.
