Incheon City Offers Up to 30 Million Won in Special Guarantees for Young Entrepreneurs

INCHEON, South Korea – In a significant move to foster a robust startup ecosystem and alleviate the financial burdens faced by nascent businesses, Incheon City has announced the launch of its “Youth Startup Special Guarantee Support Program.” This initiative aims to provide crucial early-stage capital and establish a stable management foundation for young entrepreneurs.

The program, with a total scale of 12.5 billion Korean Won (approximately $9.1 million USD), will offer up to 30 million Korean Won (approximately $21,900 USD) per young startup. To facilitate this, Incheon City has committed 1 billion Korean Won (approximately $730,000 USD) in funding. The guarantees and loans will be processed through the Incheon Credit Guarantee Foundation, in collaboration with Nonghyup Bank and Shinhan Bank, which offered the most competitive interest rates.

Eligibility and Financial Benefits

Eligible applicants are young small business owners aged 39 or younger with a business located in Incheon, and whose company was established within the last five years. The loan repayment structure is designed to be flexible, with a one-year grace period followed by a four-year installment plan.

Incheon City will further reduce the financial strain on entrepreneurs by providing interest rate subsidies of 1.5% annually for the first three years. The guarantee fee for the program is set at a competitive 0.8% per annum.

Streamlined Application Process and Key Exclusions

The application process has been streamlined for convenience, allowing young entrepreneurs to apply non-face-to-face through the “Bojung Dream” (보증드림) app or the respective mobile applications of Nonghyup Bank and Shinhan Bank.

However, certain conditions apply for eligibility. Businesses that have received credit guarantees within the last three months, those with existing guarantee amounts exceeding 100 million Korean Won, companies operating in guarantee-restricted industries, or those with overdue payments or tax arrears are not eligible for this program.

Boosting Regional Economic Vitality

An Incheon City official emphasized the critical role of this program in supporting young entrepreneurs. "This Youth Startup Special Guarantee Support Program is key to enabling young entrepreneurs to take on challenges without worrying about immediate funding," the official stated. "We will continue to provide practical financial support to help young people grow into vital forces for the regional economy."

This initiative aligns with Incheon's broader vision to position itself as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in South Korea. By alleviating financial hurdles and providing a safety net for young businesses, the city aims to stimulate job creation, foster technological advancements, and ultimately enhance the overall economic dynamism of the region. This type of targeted support is becoming increasingly common in various metropolitan areas across South Korea as cities compete to attract and retain talented young individuals and their innovative ventures.
