Itaú Bank Unveils 'Itaú Ticket', Bridging the Gap in Digital Payments in Paraguay

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay - In a significant move aimed at bolstering financial inclusion and streamlining payment processes, Itaú Bank Paraguay has launched its innovative 'Itaú Ticket' service in April 2025. This new feature, accessible through the bank's 'Itaú PY' mobile application, uniquely enables individuals to receive money transfers even without possessing a traditional bank account. The initiative is poised to revolutionize how Paraguayans send and receive funds, particularly benefiting the unbanked population.

Democratizing Money Transfers: How Itaú Ticket Works

The Itaú Ticket system prioritizes simplicity and accessibility. A sender with the Itaú PY app can initiate a transfer by navigating to the 'Services' menu and selecting 'Itaú Ticket'. Upon choosing the 'Issue' option, the sender inputs the desired transfer amount, along with the full name and national identification number of the intended recipient. Following a quick verification process, the system generates a secure digital ticket that remains valid for 24 hours. The recipient can then conveniently redeem this ticket for cash at any of Itaú's extensive network of 64 Itaú Express branches located across the country. This streamlined process bypasses the conventional requirement for both parties to hold bank accounts, making it exceptionally user-friendly.

Affordable and Efficient Financial Solution

Itaú Bank has strategically positioned Itaú Ticket as an economical alternative to traditional remittance methods. The service incurs a transparent commission of just 3% of the total transfer amount, with a capped maximum fee of 16,500 Paraguayan guaraníes (PYG). Based on the approximate April 2025 exchange rate, this maximum fee translates to roughly $2.50 USD. Furthermore, the service supports single transactions up to 10,000,000 PYG (approximately $1,500 USD), catering to a wide spectrum of financial needs, from small personal remittances to more substantial transfers. This cost-effective structure is particularly advantageous for individuals who frequently send money to family members or for small businesses operating outside the formal banking system.

Driving Digital Finance and Financial Inclusion

The introduction of Itaú Ticket underscores Itaú Bank's commitment to expanding digital financial services within Paraguay. A spokesperson for the bank stated, "We are dedicated to creating versatile payment solutions that address the diverse needs of our clientele. Itaú Ticket represents a significant step towards reducing reliance on cash transactions and maximizing the convenience offered by digital financial tools." This initiative aligns with the broader trend of increasing digital payment adoption in Paraguay and strategically positions Itaú as a frontrunner in fostering financial inclusion by reaching underserved segments of the population.

Anticipated Impact and Future Trajectory

Financial analysts anticipate that Itaú Ticket will play a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of non-cash payment methods throughout Paraguay. The service is expected to have a particularly positive impact on individuals residing in rural areas where access to traditional banking infrastructure may be limited. By providing a secure, affordable, and easily accessible method for transferring funds, Itaú is empowering a larger segment of the population to participate in the formal financial system. Looking ahead, Itaú Bank is expected to leverage the success of Itaú Ticket to introduce further innovative digital financial solutions, solidifying its leadership in the Paraguayan financial landscape and contributing to greater financial inclusion nationwide.
