Asunción, Paraguay - Paraguay is making significant strides in enhancing the sustainability of its agricultural sector and driving technological innovation. The progress was highlighted last Wednesday in Asunción at the "Sustainable Agriculture Conference for Family Farms," hosted by the National Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (Inbio).

Empowering Family Farms through Sustainable Practices

During the conference, Héctor Cristaldo, Vice President of Inbio, emphasized the crucial role of technical training and collaboration among producers in improving small-scale farms and family economies. Experts at the event underscored that adopting sustainable agricultural practices, diversifying crops (integrating vegetables, grains, and fruits), and creating added value are key to securing stable incomes and overcoming climatic and economic challenges.

"The key is to innovate with technologies that optimize resources without relying on a single crop," explained Luis Cubilla, a producer from a rural area, stressing the importance of crop diversification and innovative farming techniques.

Pushing for AI-Powered Smart Agriculture

In a separate development, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Giménez met with a delegation from the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) to discuss the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into agricultural production. The discussions particularly focused on applying AI in aquaculture and orchid cultivation.

The Taiwanese delegation presented AI-based systems designed for climate control and risk reduction. These systems aim to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and decision-making capabilities through data analysis.

Strengthening Paraguay-Taiwan Cooperation: Introducing Precision Agriculture and Enhancing Competitiveness

This collaboration between Paraguay and Taiwan aims to boost the competitiveness of Paraguay's agricultural sector through precision technologies. This includes advancements in garlic cultivation techniques and the introduction of tools that enable greater precision in crop and livestock management. The adoption of AI-based systems is also expected to minimize production risks.

Minister Giménez actively promoted the advantages of Paraguayan garlic cultivation to the international experts, emphasizing the significance of technological cooperation.

Future Outlook and Expected Benefits

Through this conference and the collaboration with Taiwan, Paraguay is expected to significantly improve agricultural productivity and increase farmers' incomes by establishing sustainable agricultural systems and actively adopting advanced technologies. The introduction of AI technology is particularly anticipated to enable the development of predictive smart farming systems, thereby strengthening the agricultural sector's resilience to climate change and market volatility. Furthermore, the diversification of crops and the cultivation of high-value crops are poised to lay the foundation for the sustainable growth of Paraguayan agriculture.
