Sapa, the Hidden Gem of Vietnam: Leading a New Travel Trend

Sapa, a highland town in northern Vietnam, is rapidly emerging as a new and highly popular travel destination among South Korean tourists. According to HanaTour's statistics, package bookings for the Sapa region in the first half of 2025 have increased by a staggering 333% compared to the same period last year, with an astonishing 1138% growth recorded in January alone. This surge is attributed to travel content featuring Sapa by famous celebrities and YouTubers, which has captured public attention and highlighted Sapa's unique charm, distinct from other well-known Vietnamese tourist destinations.

Falling in Love with Sapa, 'the Switzerland of Vietnam'

Located at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level, Sapa is often dubbed 'the Switzerland of Vietnam.' Its picturesque landscape of majestic mountain ranges and terraced rice fields leaves a deep impression on visitors. The harmonious blend of Western-style architecture and the traditional culture of ethnic minorities creates an exotic atmosphere. Furthermore, Sapa boasts pleasant and cool weather even during summer, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking refuge from the heat.

One of Sapa's key attractions is Fansipan Mountain, the highest peak in the Indochinese Peninsula, standing at 3,143 meters above sea level. While it was once accessible only to professional mountaineers, now even general tourists can easily reach the summit via monorail and cable car to admire the magnificent natural scenery. At the top, visitors can enjoy a mystical experience of walking among the clouds and a panoramic view of the vast mountain ranges.

Sapa also offers the opportunity to glimpse the lives and cultures of various ethnic minorities. Cat Cat Village, in particular, allows visitors to experience firsthand the traditional way of life of ethnic groups such as the Hmong and Dao. Here, one can trek along traditional houses, waterfalls, and beautiful terraced rice fields, enjoying the peaceful rural scenery. Diverse experiences are available, such as purchasing handicrafts made by ethnic minorities or trying on traditional costumes.

In the heart of Sapa town stands the Sapa Stone Church, an architectural marvel from the French colonial era. Built in the late 19th century, this church is a symbolic structure of Sapa and, combined with the surrounding market, creates a vibrant atmosphere. On weekends, the market held in front of the church becomes a lively trading hub where ethnic minorities gather to buy and sell goods.

HanaTour Responds to Demand by Strengthening Sapa Tour Product Lineup

HanaTour, having recognized Sapa's growth potential early on, is actively enhancing its Sapa region product lineup to meet the increasing travel demand. Their flagship exclusive product, the 'Hanoi/Sapa 5-day' package, is designed to allow visitors to intensively experience Sapa's core attractions, including a visit to Fansipan Mountain and a trek through Cat Cat Village. Notably, this product is designed as a 'HanaPack 2.0 Premium,' excluding unnecessary shopping center visits, guide/driver expenses, and optional tours, while providing 5-star hotel accommodation for the entire trip to enhance customer satisfaction.

For independent travelers, the 'Sapa Free Travel 5-day #SapaMGallery' airtel package stands out. This product includes accommodation at the 5-star 'Hotel de la Coupole Mgallery' in the heart of Sapa, round-trip airfare, and round-trip direct sleeper bus tickets between Hanoi and Sapa, supporting a convenient and dignified free travel experience. 'Hotel de la Coupole Mgallery' is renowned for its unique and luxurious interior, designed by French architect Bill Bensley.

To further boost sales in the Sapa region, HanaTour conducted two Sapa study tours in May for agency representatives and head office employees, demonstrating their dedication to product development and marketing. This underscores HanaTour's firm prediction that Sapa will establish itself as an attractive option for both first-time visitors to Vietnam and repeat travelers.

A New Summer Destination and the Future of Vietnam Travel

A HanaTour official stated, "Sapa, boasting pleasant weather due to its high-altitude characteristics, is gaining attention as a summer destination and a new travel spot offering new charms to repeat visitors to Vietnam." They added, "Bookings for the third quarter are also showing an increase of about four times compared to the same period last year, so we are expanding our offerings, focusing on exclusive summer season products."

Sapa offers a fresh alternative for travelers seeking new experiences, moving beyond the traditional Vietnam tours centered on famous cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Its majestic natural landscapes, exotic culture, and cool weather make Sapa an even more attractive summer destination. The growth of Sapa, expanding the horizons of Vietnamese travel, is expected to continue.
