CAIRO – A delegation of leading British universities is set to visit Egypt this week to explore opportunities for collaboration and expansion. From February 16th to 18th, representatives from Sheffield Hallam, Loughborough, Essex, East Anglia, Exeter, and Chester, along with the UK International Universities Consortium, will engage in discussions with Egyptian officials and institutions.

The visit, organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the British Embassy in Cairo, underscores the growing interest in transnational education partnerships. Key agenda items include the establishment of international university branches within Egypt, the launch of joint academic programs, and increased cooperation in research and innovation.

Several key partnerships are expected to be formalized during the visit. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed between Sheffield Hallam University and the British University in Cairo, and separately between Ain Shams University and both the University of East Anglia and the University of Essex. These agreements will pave the way for collaborative ventures in education and research.

The delegation's itinerary includes visits to European universities operating in Egypt, the New Cairo Technological University, and Ain Shams University, providing firsthand insights into the Egyptian higher education landscape. A networking event and cultural dinner, co-hosted by the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, will offer further opportunities for dialogue and relationship building.

The visit will be attended by prominent figures, including Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ayman Ashour, and the British Ambassador to Cairo, Gareth Bayley. The Supreme Council of Universities and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Affairs Office in London are working closely with the British Council in Egypt and the British Embassy to ensure the success of the visit. This initiative highlights the commitment of both nations to strengthening educational ties and fostering academic excellence.
