Tripoli, Libya – Lieutenant General Muhammad Al-Haddad, Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity during a crucial meeting with the newly appointed UN envoy, Hanna Tetteh. The meeting, held at the General Staff headquarters in Tripoli on Wednesday, marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to stabilize the war-torn nation.

According to an official statement released on the General Staff’s Facebook page, General Al-Haddad welcomed Envoy Tetteh, expressing his best wishes for her success in navigating the complex political landscape of Libya. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of previous UN envoys in fostering the Libyan political process.

In response, Hanna Tetteh praised General Al-Haddad’s dedication to resolving disputes and promoting stability and peace within Libya. She expressed her optimism that the United Nations would play a pivotal role in supporting Libya’s journey towards achieving its aspirations for stability and development.

Libya has been grappling with political turmoil since the 2011 ousting of Muammar Gaddafi, resulting in a fractured nation with competing factions vying for power. The current political divide between the eastern and western regions has hindered the establishment of a unified government, posing a significant challenge to national stability.

Envoy Tetteh’s arrival in Tripoli signifies a renewed push by the UN to facilitate a national dialogue among various Libyan parties and key stakeholders. Since assuming her duties, she has engaged in a series of meetings with Libyan officials and foreign diplomats to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current situation.

The UN’s mission is to support Libya in overcoming its political crisis and to pave the way for peaceful elections that will lead to the formation of a stable and unified government. General Al-Haddad’s pledge of support is seen as a vital component in achieving these goals, as his role is crucial in maintaining national security and stability.

Hanna Tetteh’s diplomatic efforts will focus on fostering cooperation between the diverse Libyan political forces and the international community, aiming to create a conducive environment for lasting peace and prosperity in Libya. The international community watches closely, hoping that this new phase of UN involvement will bring Libya closer to a stable and unified future.
