Boosting Digital Literacy and AI Utilization Skills to Energize the Lives of Active Seniors

Bucheon City's efforts to help active seniors proactively participate in a rapidly changing digital society are bearing fruit. The Bucheon City Active Seniors Retirement Preparation Support Center (3rd Floor, Boksa-gol Culture Center) successfully launched the second session of its "Now is the ChatGPT Era" course on July 4th, held every Friday from 2 PM to 4 PM. This initiative follows the enthusiastic response to the first session in April and the high demand from participants for its re-establishment, demonstrating that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is no longer a future concept but a tool deeply integrated into present-day life.

AI Opens New Pathways for Active Seniors

The "Now is the ChatGPT Era" course focuses on helping active seniors overcome their abstract fears about AI and naturally integrate ChatGPT into their daily lives. Building on the positive feedback and high satisfaction from the first session, this second course features more in-depth content and a practical, hands-on curriculum. Participants will directly experience various activities such as information retrieval, writing, and drawing using ChatGPT, thereby enhancing their digital literacy. This goes beyond merely acquiring new skills; it becomes an opportunity to improve their quality of life and explore new possibilities.

One participant in the course shared, "Now I feel confident that I can find and utilize necessary information through AI on my own," adding, "It will also be a great help in preparing for my retirement." Supporting active seniors in strengthening their capabilities and leading self-directed lives through AI technology is incredibly meaningful. Generative AI like ChatGPT is a powerful tool that can do more than just answer questions; it can summarize complex information, suggest ideas, and even assist with coding or design tasks. By mastering such tools, active seniors can efficiently acquire necessary knowledge in an information-rich environment and actively apply it to personal hobbies or learning.

Bucheon City Pledges Continuous Support for Active Seniors' Proactive Social Participation

Bucheon City is committed to continuously working to help active seniors confidently learn new technologies and broaden their horizons in a rapidly changing digital environment. Lee So-young, head of Bucheon City's Care Support Division, emphasized, "We will continue to operate various programs to help active seniors confidently learn new technologies and broaden their horizons in a rapidly changing digital environment," adding, "We will actively support active seniors in continuing their proactive roles in society."

In addition to digital courses like "Now is the ChatGPT Era," the Bucheon City Active Seniors Retirement Preparation Support Center offers a diverse range of programs aimed at stable retirement preparation for active seniors. Through comprehensive support covering all aspects of retirement preparation, including financial planning, health management, leisure activities, and improving interpersonal relationships, the center helps active seniors lead vibrant and meaningful lives even after retirement. These efforts are essential in establishing a foundation for active seniors to not just be recipients of welfare, but to demonstrate their capabilities and contribute continuously as important members of society.

AI technologies, including ChatGPT, are rapidly evolving and influencing all aspects of our lives. In this changing landscape, proactive support and attention from local governments are increasingly necessary to ensure that active seniors are not marginalized but instead become agents of change. Bucheon City's "Now is the ChatGPT Era" course significantly addresses this contemporary need, offering new possibilities for the lives of active seniors. It is hoped that such educational programs will expand, enabling more active seniors to acquire digital literacy and play proactive roles in society.
