Gwangju, South Korea – A severe winter storm has blanketed Gwangju and Jeonnam provinces in South Korea, causing widespread disruptions and hazardous conditions. The heavy snowfall, which began on [date], has led to numerous accidents, transportation cancellations, and warnings from weather officials.

As of noon today, Gwangju and Jeonnam have recorded significant snowfall, with Yeonggwang seeing the most at 7.1 centimeters. Other areas such as Hampyeong, Yeongam, and Jangheung also reported substantial accumulations.

The inclement weather has resulted in a series of accidents. The Jeonnam Fire Department responded to five traffic accidents and one fall, while the Gwangju Fire Department handled three fall-related incidents. One driver was injured after their vehicle slid off a snowy road in Yeonggwang, and a 40-year-old driver was hurt in a collision on an overpass in Hwaseon.

The heavy snow and strong winds have forced the closure of numerous roads, including sections of the Nogodan, Dotjae, Sakjae, and Dumokjae mountain passes. Ferry services have also been significantly impacted, with 43 out of 80 vessels suspended on 34 routes. Additionally, national parks like Mudeungsan and Nejangsan have been closed to visitors.

Weather forecasts indicate that the snowfall will continue through [date], with up to 20 centimeters expected in some areas of Gwangju and northern Jeonnam. The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued warnings for heavy snowfall and strong winds, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

"Temperatures will continue to drop in Gwangju and Jeonnam, and strong winds will make it feel even colder," said a spokesperson for the Gwangju Meteorological Administration. "Residents should be aware of the risk of icy roads and take precautions to prevent accidents."
