Background on Yun Bong-gil:
Yun Bong-gil (1908-1932) was a significant figure in the Korean independence movement against Japanese colonial rule. Born in Yesan, Chungcheongnam-do, he became known for his courageous acts of resistance. In 1932, at a commemoration ceremony in Shanghai celebrating Japan's victory in the First Sino-Japanese War, Yun threw a bomb at high-ranking Japanese officials. This bold act resonated deeply with Koreans and garnered international attention, highlighting the Korean people's unwavering determination for independence. Despite his capture and subsequent execution at a young age, Yun Bong-gil remains a national hero in South Korea, symbolizing patriotism and sacrifice.
