Seoul, South Korea – Hanwha Corporation, one of South Korea’s leading conglomerates, and Seoul Station North Redevelopment Corporation today held a groundbreaking ceremony for a massive mixed-use development project in Seoul’s Jung-gu district.

The ambitious project, located at 122 Bongrae-dong 2-ga, will transform a long-vacant railway site into a vibrant urban hub featuring exhibition halls, convention centers, offices, residences, and a hotel. The complex will consist of five buildings with a total floor area of approximately 340,000 square meters and will rise up to 39 stories above ground.

"This project marks a significant milestone in Seoul’s urban development," said Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at the ceremony. "Seoul Station is a gateway to the city and a central transportation hub. We are committed to transforming it into a symbolic platform that connects the past and the future, as well as Seoul and the world."

A Strategic Location

The project site is strategically located near major business districts such as Jongno, Gwanghwamun, and Yongsan, as well as popular tourist destinations like Namsan, Myeongdong, and Gyeongbokgung Palace. With excellent accessibility via multiple subway lines, including the planned GTX-A and Shin-Ansan lines, the development is expected to attract a significant number of business and leisure travelers.

A Catalyst for Growth

Upon completion, the Seoul Station North redevelopment project is anticipated to become a major business and tourism hub, capable of hosting international events and conferences. This, in turn, is expected to bolster Seoul’s position as one of the world’s top MICE destinations.

Kim Seung-mo, CEO of Hanwha Construction, expressed his confidence in the project’s success. "This project represents the combined hopes and aspirations of Seoul City, Korea Railroad Corporation, and the Hanwha Group," he said. "Leveraging our extensive experience in large-scale development projects, we are committed to creating a landmark that will be a source of pride for South Korea."

A Group-Wide Effort

The project is being carried out by a consortium of Hanwha affiliates, including Hanwha Impact, Hanwha Connect, and Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, allowing the group to leverage its expertise in construction, services, asset management, and investment. By directly operating key facilities after completion, the group aims to provide exceptional services and experiences to visitors.

A Vision for the Future

With the Seoul Station North redevelopment project, Hanwha Construction is poised to solidify its position as a leading developer in the Korean market. The company is also pursuing other large-scale mixed-use development projects, including those in Suseo, Jamsil, and Daejeon.
