Nonsan/Buyeo – Chungcheongnam-do Province held a 'Self-Defense Corps Capacity Building Training' for approximately 100 provincial and municipal public officials and members of the Self-Defense Corps to strengthen disaster response capabilities and solidify public-private cooperation. The training, held on June 9th at Nonsan City Hall and Lotte Resort Buyeo, served as an opportunity to reconfirm the importance of the Self-Defense Corps in disaster prevention and response.
Providing Professional Disaster Training and a Platform for Communication
This training was organized to enhance capabilities through professional disaster education and to promote communication between provincial and municipal public officials. The main programs included the 3rd Chungnam Self-Defense Corps Regular General Assembly, special lectures, and a consultation meeting.
The Regular General Assembly was held at the Nonsan City Self-Defense Corps office, where in-depth discussions took place on pre-emptive measures for the upcoming summer natural disasters and the progress of the Self-Defense Corps Sports Festival. This was a crucial time for establishing practical disaster response plans and boosting the morale of the corps members.
In the subsequent special lectures, Dr. Shin Woo-ri of the Chungnam Institute delivered expert knowledge on the topic of 'The Mission and Role of the Self-Defense Corps for Disaster Management,' while Shin Young-ryun, CEO of Daejeon Prevention Exercise Research Institute, provided health education for the members. Such professional training provides the foundation for Self-Defense Corps members to act more effectively in disaster situations.
The Achievements and Expectations of the Chungnam Self-Defense Corps
Currently, 5,171 Self-Defense Corps members are active in Chungnam, and they carried out disaster prevention activities 1,824 times last year alone. Key activities include drainage channel maintenance, storm drain cleaning, pre-emptive control of hazardous areas, resident evacuation support, and emergency recovery in flood-damaged areas. Their dedicated efforts have significantly contributed to protecting the safety of local residents.
Jeong Nak-do, Director of Safety Planning, stated regarding the training, "I hope this training will enhance disaster prevention and response capabilities, and serve as a venue for communication and harmony." He also urged, "I ask you to lead the way in disaster sites this year as well, so that Chungnam can remain safe." This indicates that Chungnam Province will continue to provide unwavering support for enhancing the private sector's autonomous disaster response capabilities.
Through this training, Chungnam Province's disaster response system is expected to become even more robust. The organic cooperation between public officials and the Self-Defense Corps will enable swift and effective responses in unpredictable disaster situations.
