Singapore - As the Republic of Singapore commemorates its 60th year of independence with a series of celebratory events, a poignant film series titled ‘There’s beauty in harmony’ has been unveiled, drawing significant attention. The series was created by DDB Group Singapore for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY).

Recognized as one of Asia's most multicultural nations, Singapore is a vibrant tapestry woven from the diverse cultural threads of its Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian, and Peranakan communities. The ongoing SG60 campaign serves as a moment to reflect upon the shared values that have underpinned Singapore's resilience and prosperity over the past six decades. The centerpiece of this initiative is a three-part film series that underscores multiculturalism as a cornerstone of Singaporean social cohesion, emphasizing the necessity of shared spaces and mutual understanding among people from disparate cultural backgrounds.

Jeff Cheong, CEO of DDB Group Singapore, remarked, “Across time, food, art, and music have acted as powerful conduits, binding diverse communities through shared passions. At this significant juncture of Singapore’s 60th anniversary, it is crucial to cherish these intrinsic values that propel us forward as one. This campaign focuses on these shared sentiments to demonstrate that we have far more in common than we might perceive, and that the possibilities are boundless when we collaborate and engage with one another.”

Each of the three 75-second films captures heartfelt moments of two Singaporeans from different backgrounds coming together to learn new skills and foster innovation. One segment portrays a Chinese calligrapher collaborating with a Batik artist to create a novel art form, while another showcases an Indian chef and a Chinese culinary expert drawing inspiration from their respective culinary heritages to develop an original dish. The final installment features an Indian and a Malay musician uniting through the emotive power of music. The series movingly conveys the message that a multicultural society is a precious inheritance for future generations, one that must be safeguarded and nurtured.

The campaign, which premiered on YouTube in the first quarter of 2025, is being disseminated across Singapore through a variety of channels, including online article advertisements, social media content, and television and radio broadcasts.

Singapore Population Demographics (as of 2024)

Singapore's societal richness is deeply rooted in its diverse ethnic and cultural composition. As of 2024, the population breakdown is as follows:

Total Population: Approximately 5.64 million
Ethnic Composition:Chinese: ~74.3%
Malay: ~13.5%
Indian: ~9.0%
Others (including Eurasian and Peranakan): ~3.2%
This multifaceted ethnic composition forms a crucial foundation for Singapore’s cultural vibrancy and social dynamism. The government and various social organizations are continuously dedicated to respecting and fostering these multicultural characteristics. The MCCY’s SG60 commemorative film series stands as a testament to these efforts, aiming to reinforce the values of a multicultural society and cultivate a sense of shared community among Singaporeans.
