Incheon Environmental Corp. Offers Free Weekend Farm Plots to Yeongjongdo Residents

INCHEON – The Unbuk Office of the Incheon Environmental Corporation announced on Thursday that it will accept applications for its "Eco-Friendly Weekend Farm" from February 20 to March 16. The initiative aims to provide local residents of Yeongjongdo with a unique opportunity for urban farming and healing.

The weekend farm utilizes idle land within the Unbuk Sewage Treatment Plant. In response to growing local demand, the corporation has expanded the facility this year by adding two additional plots, bringing the total to 57. The distribution includes:

38 Family Plots (20㎡ each)
14 Small-scale Plots (10㎡ each)
5 Group Plots (33㎡ each)

Strict Fairness through Digital Lottery To ensure equitable access, eligibility is restricted to residents officially registered in Yeongjongdo, with a limit of one application per household. Due to its massive popularity—recording a 10-to-1 competition rate last year—the corporation will select the final participants through a transparent, random computerized lottery. The winners will be revealed on the corporation's official website on March 20.

A Space for Healing and Education Selected residents will be able to cultivate their assigned plots from the opening ceremony on April 4 until November 22. On the opening day, the corporation plans to provide essential safety training and urban gardening workshops to assist novice farmers.

"We hope this weekend farm serves as a sanctuary where families can touch the soil and experience the changing seasons amidst their busy daily lives," said Kim Seong-hoon, Chairman of the Incheon Environmental Corporation. "We remain committed to expanding eco-friendly public services that provide tangible benefits to our community."

Community Coexistence The Unbuk Office currently treats approximately 23,000 tons of sewage annually in the Yeongjongdo area. Beyond its core environmental mission, the facility actively fosters community ties by operating various public amenities, including the weekend farm and local tennis courts.

Interested residents can apply online through the Incheon Environmental Corporation’s official website after completing the membership registration process.
