On the 15th, Chungcheongnam-do hosted a talk concert titled "The 115th Autumn, Our Dreams!" in collaboration with TBN Chungnam Traffic Broadcasting at Daeheung Elementary School in Yesan, creating an opportunity to reflect together on the future of small schools and local villages amid the crisis of regional extinction.
Attended by provincial and Yesan-gun officials, Daeheung Elementary students and staff, and local residents, the event featured a talk concert and performances.
During the talk concert, current students, alumni, and village residents shared various stories centered around memories tied to the school, present-day experiences, and the future dreamed of by the children.
In addition, a circus musical performance by Team Funist and a concert by the group Koyote added to the festivities, allowing students, residents, and visitors to mingle and enjoy the day together.
Having opened in 1911, Daeheung Elementary is a school with a deep history celebrating its 115th anniversary this year, having produced six independence activists.
However, due to a declining student population, the total enrollment has dropped to just 12 students, placing the school at risk of being converted into a branch school. In response, alumni and the local community are joining forces to save the school.
Accordingly, the province promoted this event to raise awareness of the reality facing small schools and villages endangered by population decline, and to re-examine the value held by schools and local communities through the vivid experiences of residents.
A school is both a space where children learn and grow, and an essential living foundation for families to settle in a region. Therefore, the crisis of small schools extends beyond simple educational issues to touch upon the sustainability of local communities.
The province plans to continuously expand public interest necessary for preserving and passing down regional history and educational assets through such events. This event is scheduled to be broadcasted later via TBN Chungnam Traffic Broadcasting.
An official from the province stated, "Small schools go beyond being a learning space for children; they are precious assets that carry on regional history and community values. Through this event, we will widely publicize the meaning held by Daeheung Elementary and its village, and draw continuous interest and participat
