Daejeon City is holding the "2025 Atopy and Asthma Drawing Contest" to raise public awareness of allergic diseases and emphasize the importance of prevention and management. This contest aims to help children and adolescents, who are the leaders of the future, increase their understanding of allergic diseases and independently practice healthy lifestyle habits.

Contest Overview

The contest will run for approximately three and a half months, from June 2, 2025, to September 15, 2025. Any student enrolled in daycare centers, kindergartens, or elementary, middle, and high schools within Daejeon City can participate. Creative works in various formats such as posters, illustrated diaries, poetic pictures, and comics are accepted, encouraging participants' free expression on the theme of allergic disease prevention and management. The organizers particularly look forward to works that go beyond simply listing information about the diseases, offering fresh and practical ideas on how to prevent and manage allergic diseases in daily life.

How to Participate and Submission Guidelines

Students interested in participating can find detailed information on the Daejeon Metropolitan City Atopy and Asthma Education and Information Center website (https://www.allergyinfocenter.co.kr). Submissions can be made through in-person visits or registered mail, with postage costs borne by the participant. In-person submissions are accepted on weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM (excluding lunch break from 12 PM to 1 PM) at the center's address: 101, 388beon-gil, Bomunsan-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon. For mail submissions, registered mail or in-person submission is recommended due to the risk of damage or loss of mail arriving outside of center operating hours.

When submitting a work, one application form and one original artwork must be submitted. Participants under 14 years old require the consent of a legal guardian, who must complete the application form along with the participant. The artwork title must be written on the back of the work in the following order: "○○ District_School Name_Grade (Class Name)_Full Name_Artwork Title."

The specifications for each artwork format are as follows:

Poster: 1 sheet of 8-cut paper (272mm × 394mm), original submission.
Illustrated Diary, Poetic Picture, Comic: 210mm × 210mm (square), within 10 pages, original submission.
All entries must be purely original creations and must not infringe on the copyrights of others or have won awards in other contests. If it is confirmed that a participant has entered the contest through fraudulent means such as plagiarism or intellectual property infringement, the award may be canceled, and prizes may be reclaimed.

Judging and Awards

Submitted works will be fairly judged based on four criteria: comprehension, expression, creativity, and completeness. The scoring for each criterion is: comprehension 40 points, expression 30 points, creativity 20 points, and completeness 10 points, for a total of 100 points.

A total of 18 award winners will be selected, and the awards are as follows:

Grand Prize (Daejeon Mayor's Award): 3 winners (1 kindergarten, 1 elementary, 1 middle/high school)
Top Excellence Award (Center Director's Award): 3 winners (1 kindergarten, 1 elementary, 1 middle/high school)
Excellence Award (Center Director's Award): 5 winners (2 kindergarten, 2 elementary, 1 middle/high school)
Encouragement Award (Center Director's Award): 7 winners (3 kindergarten, 3 elementary, 1 middle/high school)
Selected Works (Center Director's Award): May not be awarded if they do not meet judging criteria.
Selected winning works will be displayed to the public through an award ceremony and exhibition, which is expected to contribute to increasing social interest and understanding of allergic diseases.

Significance and Expected Effects of the Contest

Jeong Eun-hee, director of the Daejeon Metropolitan City Atopy and Asthma Education and Information Center, emphasized, "We hope this contest will serve as an opportunity for children and students to naturally learn about allergic diseases and practice the importance of prevention in their daily lives." Various allergic diseases such as atopy, asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergies, and anaphylaxis are chronic diseases with steadily increasing prevalence in modern society. These conditions not only lower the quality of life for patients but also impose significant economic and social burdens for treatment and management.

Particularly for growing children and adolescents, allergic diseases can lead to reduced academic performance, emotional anxiety, and difficulties in peer relationships, making early diagnosis and consistent management very important. This drawing contest helps students naturally gain a learning effect by directly searching for information on allergic diseases and expressing prevention and management methods from their own perspective. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to alleviating vague fears about the disease through creative artistic activities and fostering a positive perception.

Daejeon City plans to provide accurate information about allergic diseases to citizens through this contest, widely promote the importance of adhering to preventive measures, and strengthen the educational foundation for improving the health of future generations. For more information about the contest, please contact the Daejeon Metropolitan City Atopy and Asthma Education and Information Center (☎070-4722-4829).
