Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do – Geumdangsil Traditional Experience Village, nestled in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, has garnered national acclaim by winning the grand prize at the "Rural Tourism Village Best Practice Contest" co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Rural Community Corporation.

The Rural Tourism Village project aims to boost income, enhance self-reliance, and strengthen the capabilities of residents in rural areas. It also plays a vital role in offering urban dwellers unique relaxation and experiential opportunities amidst nature, showcasing the diverse charm of the countryside.

Designated as a Rural Tourism Village in 2016, Geumdangsil Traditional Experience Village has been operating differentiated experience programs based on its rich history and beautiful natural environment. The village boasts over 100 well-preserved traditional Hanok houses and the nation's longest (over 8km) and most picturesque stone wall paths. Notably, the Natural Monument No. 469, a centuries-old pine forest, leaves a deep impression and provides healing for visitors, while prehistoric remains hint at the area's long history.

Geumdangsil Village's main experience programs include agricultural product cultivation, traditional farmhouse stays, diverse rural cuisine experiences, and traditional craft activities. Leveraging these abundant resources, the villagers have continuously developed customized programs for family tourists and strived to increase community income through the sale of local specialties. These efforts are considered to have culminated in the top recognition at this year's Best Practice Contest.

Chairman Jiwon Ha of the Geumdangsil Traditional Experience Village Support Committee expressed his aspirations regarding the award, stating, "We will seek solutions to the serious problem of rural population decline and actively introduce cutting-edge technologies to further develop the 6th industry and cultural tourism infrastructure to create an attractive living environment where young people will return." This statement demonstrates a commitment to pursuing future-oriented development while preserving the traditional beauty of the rural village.

Geumdangsil Village in Andong is expected to establish itself as an attractive rural tourism destination for visitors. Combining rich history, beautiful nature, and the warm hospitality of its residents, Geumdangsil Village offers more than just a respite; it provides a valuable opportunity to experience the depth of Korean traditional culture and understand rural life.

Detailed Introduction to Geumdangsil Village's Attractive Tourist Resources:

Geumdangsil Traditional Hanok Houses: Over 100 traditional houses, retaining the traces of a long history, showcase the beauty of Korean traditional architecture. An overnight stay in a Hanok offers a special experience like stepping back in time, allowing for true relaxation in a serene atmosphere. Some Hanoks operate as guesthouses, offering the experience of traditional underfloor heating (Ondol) and wooden floors (Maru), along with simple and elegant traditional Korean meals.
Nation's Longest Traditional Stone Wall Paths (Over 8km): The winding stone wall paths are one of Geumdangsil Village's greatest charms. Having stood alongside the village's history for centuries, the stone walls create a friendly and cozy landscape. Strolling along these paths allows visitors to feel the changing seasons, and the views of traditional houses beyond the walls are like scenes from a painting. It is a popular spot for photographers and a beloved date course for couples.
Natural Monument No. 469, Old Pine Forest: This forest, with its centuries-old, magnificent pine trees forming a dense canopy, is a space where one can simultaneously feel the grandeur and beauty of nature. Taking a walk along the forest paths or resting on a bench is sufficient to soothe the mind and body weary from city life. It provides cool shade, especially in summer, and offers a spectacular view of red and yellow foliage in autumn.
Prehistoric Remains: Remnants of prehistoric times can be found throughout the village, serving as important evidence that Geumdangsil Village has been a place of habitation for a long time. These sites can be an interesting exploration course for visitors interested in history.
Connection with Surrounding Tourist Resources: Geumdangsil Village provides a richer travel experience by connecting with various nearby tourist attractions. In the vicinity are the beautiful natural scenery of Yongmunsan Mountain and the historic Yongmunsa Temple. Additionally, Andong Hot Springs offers relief from fatigue, and the Andong Astronomical Observatory provides a unique space to experience the wonders of the night sky.
Geumdangsil Traditional Experience Village is expected to offer unforgettable memories to visitors through its traditional beauty and diverse experience programs. Building on the grand prize at this year's contest, it is anticipated to grow into a beloved rural tourism destination for both domestic and international tourists in the future.
