Woori Bank, a prominent South Korean financial institution, has officially entered the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) market with the launch of its affordable mobile service, "Woori WON Mobile," on April 18th. This strategic move allows the bank to diversify its services and tap into the growing demand for budget-friendly mobile plans. Customers can conveniently sign up for the service online through the Woori WON Banking application and a dedicated website, eliminating the need for in-person registration.

The newly launched mobile service offers a diverse range of 34 different plans, with monthly fees starting as low as 5,000 KRW and going up to the 30,000 KRW range. These plans cater to various user needs, including standard options as well as specialized plans offering discounts on Over-The-Top (OTT) media services and tailored packages for working professionals. This variety aims to attract a broad customer base seeking cost-effective mobile solutions.

A key differentiator of Woori WON Mobile is its integration with Woori Bank's existing financial services. Customers can benefit from discounts of up to 3,300 KRW per month on their mobile bills based on their financial activity with the bank. This includes salary direct deposit, holding pension products, and using Woori Bank credit cards. Furthermore, the service offers additional data benefits for customers who sign up together with family members or friends, encouraging group subscriptions.

Looking ahead, Woori Bank plans to further enhance the synergy between its financial and mobile services. The bank announced its intention to introduce a high-interest savings account linked to the mobile service in the following month. This initiative underscores Woori Bank's commitment to providing unique, combined financial and telecommunications benefits to its customers, aiming to create a comprehensive and attractive service package.

In collaboration with its affiliate, Woori Card, Woori Bank has also launched an exclusive Woori WON Mobile credit card. Customers who use this card for automatic payment of their mobile bills can receive substantial discounts of up to 25,000 KRW per month, depending on their previous month's spending. This dedicated credit card further amplifies the cost-saving potential for Woori WON Mobile subscribers.

Woori Bank has expressed strong confidence in its new venture, stating its ambition to become a leading name in the MVNO sector by combining the affordability of budget mobile services with the unique financial advantages offered by the bank. This move reflects a growing trend in South Korea where non-telecom companies, particularly financial institutions, are entering the MVNO market to enhance customer loyalty and create new revenue streams through service convergence. The integration of financial and telecommunication services is expected to provide greater convenience and value to consumers.
