'2025 Suwon Hwaseong Heritage Concert' to Be Held: A Meeting of History and Music

Suwon City announced on the 30th that it will host the '2025 Suwon Hwaseong Heritage Concert' on June 7th at 7:30 PM at a special stage set up at Yeonmudae, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. This special concert, set against the backdrop of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, promises a unique experience where attendees can enjoy a modern musical extravaganza in a historical setting.

Part 1 of the concert will feature a grand and moving performance by the Suwon

Philharmonic Orchestra and the Suwon City Choir in collaboration. Notably, Forteana, a male quartet group that gained recognition for their outstanding vocal skills by securing second place in JTBC's 'Phantom Singer 4,' will join the stage, creating an anticipated blend of classical and crossover music. Forteana, known for their delicate yet powerful harmonies, is expected to provide a richer musical experience. The collaboration between the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir not only showcases Suwon City's cultural capabilities but also serves as an opportunity to enhance the accessibility of classical music to the public through cooperation between local art groups and popular artists.

Part 2 of the concert will feature numerous talented artists from the popular music scene, presenting a diverse range of performances. Lee Young-hyun, a member of the group Big Mama and known for her explosive vocal prowess, will deliver deep emotion and a powerful voice that will resonate with the audience. The male vocal group Noel, loved for their soulful vocals, will adorn the Yeonmudae night with their characteristic warm and emotional harmonies. Additionally, trot singer Cheon Rok-dam, who recently rose to stardom by finishing third in TV Chosun's 'Mister Trot 3,' is expected to deliver an exciting and energetic performance that will draw enthusiastic responses from the audience.

This concert, harmonizing with the beautiful night scenery of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, will not only offer citizens unforgettable memories but also provide tourists with a special opportunity to experience both the historical value and cultural charm of Suwon Hwaseong. Suwon City expects this concert to transform Suwon Hwaseong from a mere historical site into a living cultural art space, contributing to the enhancement of the region's cultural brand value. Admission to the concert is free, allowing all citizens to freely participate and enjoy the night at Suwon Hwaseong with beautiful music.

Selected as Excellent Agency for Winter Disaster Response for 3 Consecutive Years: Proving Suwon as a Safe City

Suwon City announced on the 30th that it has been selected as an excellent local government for three consecutive years in Gyeonggi Province's 2024-2025 winter heavy snow and cold wave comprehensive evaluation. This result proves Suwon City's excellent capability in prioritizing citizen safety, protecting citizens from disasters through thorough preparation and swift response.

This evaluation comprehensively assessed the preparedness and response capabilities for winter natural disasters across 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. Evaluation criteria are expected to have included various elements such as preparation for snow and ice removal, support for vulnerable populations during cold waves, implementation of disaster preparedness drills, and citizen outreach and education. Suwon City secured a financial incentive of 100 million won from Gyeonggi Province through this selection and reportedly received high scores, particularly in the areas of operating cold wave shelters and supporting vulnerable populations.

Every winter, Suwon City has operated cold wave shelters for vulnerable populations, including single elderly individuals and low-income groups exposed to extreme cold, providing them with warm and safe havens. Furthermore, through visiting health management services, the city has regularly checked the health status of vulnerable populations and provided emergency assistance when needed, demonstrating meticulous effort. In preparation for heavy snowfall, the city ensured minimal inconvenience for citizens and safe passage by securing snow removal equipment and personnel, stockpiling snow removal materials, and establishing snow removal plans for major roads. These multifaceted efforts contributed positively to this evaluation, resulting in the achievement of being selected as an excellent agency for three consecutive years.

A Suwon City official stated, "Being selected as an excellent agency for three consecutive years was possible thanks to the active cooperation of citizens and the dedicated efforts of disaster management officials." They added, "We will continue to do our best to create a safe city where citizens can live with peace of mind." This achievement demonstrates Suwon City's leading role in protecting the lives and safety of its citizens, going beyond mere administrative services.

Gosaek-dong Daebudeuk Park Expands Sports Infrastructure with Lawn Bowls and Soccer Fields

Suwon City announced on the 30th that it has developed new sports facilities, including a lawn bowls practice stadium for people with disabilities and an artificial turf soccer field, at Daebudeuk Park in Gosaek-dong, Gwonseon-gu. This is part of Suwon City's ongoing efforts to promote citizen health and support leisure activities, and it is especially expected to contribute to the revitalization of sports for people with disabilities.

The newly constructed lawn bowls practice stadium is 1,141㎡ in size and consists of 5 links. Lawn bowls is a sport that can be enjoyed by both disabled and non-disabled individuals, and it plays a crucial role in expanding the base of sports for people with disabilities, particularly those with intellectual and physical disabilities. Previously, there was no dedicated lawn bowls practice facility in Suwon, causing inconvenience for lawn bowls enthusiasts who had to use facilities in other local governments. This new dedicated practice field is expected to resolve such inconveniences. The facility is scheduled to begin full operation on June 2nd, which will be great news for local lawn bowls enthusiasts.

The accompanying artificial turf soccer field, spanning 4,800㎡, is expected to provide a comfortable and safe exercise environment for soccer enthusiasts. Artificial turf fields have the advantage of being usable year-round regardless of the weather and can be utilized for various daily sports activities in addition to regular soccer, thereby contributing to increased participation in sports activities among citizens.

Through the construction of these sports facilities at Daebudeuk Park, Suwon City has not only expanded infrastructure for citizen health promotion but also demonstrated its aim to be a "city for all," particularly by making it easy for people with disabilities to enjoy sports activities in their daily lives. A Suwon City official stated, "We hope the newly created sports facilities will be of great help for citizens' health promotion and leisure activities," adding, "We will continue to expand various sports facilities to meet the demands of citizens." The opening of these facilities once again confirms Suwon City's proactive investment in improving the quality of life for its citizens.
