Yeonsu Hanmaeum Park Project Receives Green Light, Aiming for 2025 Completion

INCHEON – A significant step forward has been taken in the development of the Yeonsu Hanmaeum Park, a planned 82,649㎡ eco-friendly recreational space in Seonhak-dong, Yeonsu-gu. Yeonsu-gu officials announced on February 11th that the project has received conditional approval from the Central Urban Planning Committee.

The park, located at 216-2 Seonhak-dong, will offer a variety of facilities for sports, cultural activities, and leisure, providing a much-needed green space for the community. The project's approval marks a major milestone, particularly given the challenges of developing within Greenbelt areas. Such projects typically require extensive consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and subsequent approval from the Central Urban Planning Committee, a process often taking upwards of 18 months.

However, Yeonsu-gu’s proactive engagement with the Ministry over the past year has significantly expedited the process, shaving off six months from the anticipated timeline. This streamlined approach underscores the local government's commitment to bringing the park to fruition.

While the project has received conditional approval, the Central Urban Planning Committee has outlined specific requirements. These include developing a comprehensive plan for ecological network connectivity, ensuring the park integrates seamlessly with the surrounding environment, and a review of the park's entrance road dimensions. Yeonsu-gu has pledged to address these conditions promptly and will submit a detailed action plan to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. Following this, the necessary procedures for urban management plan and implementation plan approval will commence.

Yeonsu-gu aims to complete construction of the Yeonsu Hanmaeum Park by October 2025. A representative from the Yeonsu-gu Parks and Greenery Division emphasized the local government's dedication to fulfilling the conditions set by the Central Urban Planning Committee and accelerating the park's development. They highlighted the project's importance in creating a new landmark for Yeonsu-gu, offering residents a place for relaxation, rejuvenation, and connection with nature.

The Yeonsu Hanmaeum Park project is anticipated to significantly improve the quality of life for residents, providing a valuable recreational space that promotes both physical and mental well-being. Furthermore, the park's development will contribute to local ecosystem preservation, striking a balance between urban development and environmental sustainability.
