Gimpo City Launches "70 Imagination King" Contest to Foster Innovative Governance

GIMPO, SOUTH KOREA – The city of Gimpo, under the leadership of Mayor Kim Byung-soo, has announced an engaging initiative to cultivate creativity and drive practical innovation within its public sector. The "Find the 70 Imagination King" contest invites Gimpo City government officials to propose inventive ideas aimed at enhancing citizen convenience and improving administrative efficiency.

The contest, which commenced on April 1st and will run until April 11th, encourages officials from all departments to submit proposals that address areas within their current responsibilities where improvements can be made for the benefit of the city's residents. Additionally, the initiative seeks to identify groundbreaking new projects that hold the potential for integration into the city's broader policy framework. By empowering public servants to directly contribute their insights, Gimpo City aims to ensure that the resulting initiatives are both effective and readily implementable.

The submitted proposals will undergo a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process in June. This will include an initial practical review by relevant departments, followed by an online public evaluation. Notably, the online evaluation, scheduled for May, will be conducted through the "People's Suggestion Box" (likely a government-operated online platform for public feedback), allowing all citizens to participate by voting for the ideas they believe to be the most impactful and innovative. The final stage of evaluation will involve a concluding review by a panel of experts.

Ultimately, six winning entries will be selected, with awards distributed as follows: one Grand Prize winner, one First Prize winner, two Second Prize winners, and two Encouragement Prize recipients. This tiered recognition underscores the city's commitment to valuing a range of impactful ideas.

A spokesperson for Gimpo City emphasized the practical implications of the contest, stating, "Our goal is to ensure that the outstanding ideas identified through this contest are not just recognized but are actively integrated into our administrative practices. By translating these innovative concepts into tangible actions, we aim to deliver direct and meaningful improvements to the services and experiences of our citizens."

The "70 Imagination King" contest is spearheaded by the newly formed "70 Imagination Team," established in January. This dedicated team is tasked with the core objectives of streamlining bureaucratic processes through the innovation of unnecessary regulations and proactively seeking out novel proposals that can elevate citizen satisfaction with Gimpo's governance. The launch of this contest signifies the team's commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and citizen-centric administration within Gimpo City.

By actively engaging its public officials in the ideation process and incorporating public feedback through the online evaluation, Gimpo City is demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to governance, one that values internal expertise and citizen engagement in shaping a more efficient and citizen-friendly municipality.
