GANGHWA ISLAND, SOUTH KOREA – Ganghwa County is actively supporting its local fruit growers by offering financial assistance for the purchase of protective fruit bags. Applications for this initiative, designed to reduce the financial strain on farmers and enhance the quality of the region's renowned fruit produce, will be accepted until April 18th.

The subsidy program covers essential fruits cultivated in Ganghwa Island, including grapes, pears, apples, and peaches. The financial support varies depending on the type of fruit bag, ranging from 18 to 58 Korean Won per bag. This targeted approach ensures that farmers receive appropriate assistance based on their specific needs.

Eligibility for the program extends to individual farmers and agricultural cooperatives (farming associations) residing in Ganghwa County who cultivate orchards spanning 1000 square meters or more. Interested applicants can conveniently submit their applications at the local township (eup or myeon) administrative offices corresponding to their registered address.

Park Yong-cheol, the Mayor of Ganghwa County, emphasized the importance of this support for the agricultural community. "We strongly encourage our fruit growers to apply for the necessary quantity of protective bags to take full advantage of this beneficial program," stated Mayor Park. "Ganghwa County is deeply committed to fostering a robust production base for premium-quality fruits. We will continue to identify and implement supportive policies that contribute to the economic well-being of our farmers and the reputation of Ganghwa's exceptional fruit."

The use of fruit bags is a crucial agricultural practice that provides numerous benefits, including protecting developing fruits from pests, diseases, and environmental damage such as sunburn and blemishes. This results in higher yields of marketable fruit with improved appearance and overall quality, ultimately leading to increased profitability for the farmers. Ganghwa Island is known for its fertile land and favorable climate, which contribute to the exceptional taste and quality of its agricultural products. This initiative further underscores the county's commitment to maintaining these high standards and supporting its agricultural sector.

By providing this financial assistance, Ganghwa County aims to not only alleviate the immediate costs associated with fruit cultivation but also to invest in the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of its local fruit industry. The program is a testament to the county's proactive approach in supporting its agricultural heritage and ensuring the continued production of high-quality fruit for consumers.
