(C) Descendants of independence activists visit the former office of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea to retrace the footsteps of their ancestors.
The Heungsadan Headquarters for Aiding Descendants of Independence Activists (Standing Representative Na Jong-mok) announced that it successfully completed the '2026 Overseas Independence Movement Site Tour' from January 26 to 30. The tour included 23 descendants of independence activists, including high school and university students from across the country.
This program was organized to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea by following the footsteps of independence activists. Participants visited the headquarters of the Provisional Government and historical sites related to the independence movement in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Chongqing.
The group first visited the Hangzhou office of the Provisional Government and then moved to the Jiaxing safe house, where Kim Gu hid from Japanese threats. They then traveled to Shanghai to see the Provisional Government office and the Yun Bong-gil Memorial in Hongkou Park. They also visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. On the final day, they visited the Provisional Government office and the site of the Korea Liberation Army Headquarters in Chongqing.
Hong Woo-jin, a student who presented on Yun Bong-gil’s patriotic act, stated, "Memory does not carry on by itself; it is chosen and preserved. It is up to us to decide which history to remember and inherit." Another student, Won Hee-jung, remarked, "Witnessing the true patriotism and noble sacrifice of our ancestors at the site made me realize the deep meaning of the independence movement. As a descendant, I will act with a greater sense of responsibility."
