In a dramatic contest marked by persistent adverse weather conditions, the LG Twins persevered to defeat the SSG Landers with a final score of 11-4 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on April 19th. This victory allows the Seoul-based Twins to reignite their winning momentum in the 2025 Shinhan Solbank KBO League.

The game commenced under ominous skies, and the predicted rainfall made its presence felt almost immediately. Just two minutes after the first pitch, the umpire halted play due to intensifying rain. However, the delay was brief, lasting only 16 minutes before the teams returned to the diamond to continue the contest.

The reprieve was temporary. In the top of the fourth inning, the downpour intensified once more, leading to a more significant suspension of the game at approximately 3:21 PM. Fans and players alike endured a lengthy wait of over two hours before play finally resumed at 5:40 PM. Consequently, the two teams were locked in a grueling battle that stretched beyond six hours.

Despite the arduous conditions and lengthy interruptions, the LG Twins demonstrated resilience and offensive firepower. This hard-fought victory propelled their season record to an impressive 18 wins and 4 losses, solidifying their position at the top of the KBO league standings. Conversely, the SSG Landers, mired in a six-game losing streak, fell to a record of 9 wins and 11 losses, sliding down to seventh place in the league.

LG Twins’ starting pitcher Son Ju-young delivered a stellar performance in his three innings on the mound. Facing nine batters, he showcased his dominance by remaining scoreless and striking out five. Unfortunately for Son and the Twins, the prolonged rain delay prevented him from continuing his masterful outing.

Relief pitcher Lee Ji-gang took over after the delay and pitched two innings, allowing three runs on two hits and four walks. While he showed some signs of instability, he managed to maintain the lead and was credited with the win. The LG bullpen saw a series of pitchers take the mound. Kim Jin-sung pitched one inning, conceding one run. Baek Seung-hyun followed, allowing one hit in his 0⅔ innings. Rookie pitcher Kim Young-woo stepped up to extinguish a potential threat. Woo Kang-hoon and Lee Woo-chan then closed out the game with scoreless innings, securing the victory for the Twins.

The LG Twins' offense was spearheaded by veteran outfielder Kim Hyun-soo, who had an outstanding day at the plate, going 3-for-4. Foreign hitter Austin Dean provided a significant boost with his sixth home run of the season, driving in three crucial runs. Moon Sung-joo, Park Dong-won, and Koo Bon-hyeok also contributed significantly with multi-hit games, showcasing the depth of the LG lineup.

On the other side, SSG Landers’ starting pitcher Song Young-jin struggled, allowing four runs on six hits in just 3⅓ innings, taking his second loss of the season (1 win). Park Si-hoo pitched 2⅔ innings in relief, surrendering one run on four hits. Veteran pitcher Noh Kyung-eun managed a scoreless inning, but Kim Min struggled, allowing a run while recording only one out. Han Doo-sol also had a difficult outing, walking two consecutive batters and allowing two runs without recording an out. Choi Min-joon pitched 1⅓ innings, conceding one run.

Despite their pitching woes, the SSG Landers' offense showed signs of life later in the game as they attempted a comeback. Go Myung-jun and Oh Tae-gon were bright spots for the Landers, each recording two hits in four at-bats. However, their efforts ultimately fell short against the consistent offensive pressure from the LG Twins.

The LG Twins initiated the scoring in the top of the second inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Koo Bon-hyeok delivered a clutch RBI single to left field, giving the Twins a 1-0 lead. Hong Chang-ki followed with another single, extending the lead to 2-0.

After the lengthy rain delay, the game resumed in the top of the fourth inning with one out and runners on first and second. Austin Dean stepped up to the plate and provided a much-needed spark for the Twins, launching a towering three-run home run, increasing their advantage to 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, after Son Ju-young was removed due to the rain delay, the SSG Landers managed to get on the scoreboard. With two outs and runners on first and second, Go Myung-jun hit an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

The Landers continued to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Consecutive walks put runners on first and second with no outs. Han Yu-sum then drove in a run with an RBI single. With two outs and runners on second and third, Oh Tae-gon hit a single to center field, bringing another run home and narrowing the score to 5-4.

However, the LG Twins responded emphatically in the top of the eighth inning, turning it into a decisive big inning that ultimately secured their victory.

With a runner on third and one out, SSG pitcher Kim Min threw a wild pitch, allowing a crucial insurance run to score, making it 6-4. The Twins then capitalized on a bases-loaded situation. Oh Ji-hwan drew a walk, forcing in another run, followed by Austin Dean also drawing a bases-loaded walk, increasing the lead to 8-4. Park Dong-won then added another run with a sacrifice fly, extending the Twins' advantage to 9-4.

The Twins were not done yet. With the bases still loaded, Shin Min-jae delivered a clutch two-run single, driving in two more runners and pushing the score to 11-4, effectively sealing the victory for the LG Twins.

This hard-fought win in challenging conditions underscores the LG Twins' determination and offensive capabilities as they continue their quest for the KBO League championship in the 2025 season. For the SSG Landers, this loss marks a continuation of their struggles, and they will need to find a way to break their losing streak to regain their footing in the league standings. The resilience shown by the LG Twins in the face of adversity will undoubtedly serve as a morale boost as they look to build on this victory and maintain their position at the top of the league.
